The Monster in the Mirror: Why Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’ Is Not a Horror Movie—It’s a Prophecy
Chapter 1: The God Complex We live in an era obsessed with optimization. Look at your daily routine. You probably track your sleep with a watch, track your calories with an app, and track your productivity with a spreadsheet. We are constantly trying to hack our biology. We are trying to cheat exhaustion. We are trying to cheat aging. And ultimately, we are trying to cheat death.

Villainess Blown Opportunity: Judith Hoag's Rita vs. Megan Fox's April O'Neil (TMNT: Out of the Shadows)
I just want to clairify something here. I've been writing a few "Villainess Blown Opportunity" pieces recently, but I assure you, my intentions are genial. When I write these, it's not out of any disrespect to whatever show or film is the subject. This is not me immensely criticizing the project. Rather, it's just an idea or a suggestion from someone who's been a fan of villainesses since age 8, and has a big imagination. A lot of the shows or films that serve as the subject still have my adoration regardless, but if I believe that there was an opportunity for a villainess to take the spotlight, I'll definitely point it out.

The Unsuspecting Victim Grazes Happily On Caviar
The Beast In Me (2025) TV Series - A Spoilers-Free Review As a fan of both Homeland (2011) and The Americans (2013) TV series, when I saw Claire Danes and Matthew Rhys starring in what appeared to be a limited series on Netflix, I wasted no time jumping on the remote and binge-watching all eight episodes in a single day.

Six 100-Word Movie Reviews
My Oxford Year (2025), Director: Iain Morris I was going to write off My Oxford Year as your average romance film with predictable themes and characters. You can’t base your thoughts on a movie in the first half. This is the second Sofia Carson movie to come out this year. Carson and Corey Mylchreast create a heartfelt relationship. Illness in relationships isn’t focused on enough in movies. I did not expect the film to take that angle. Relationships are not all fairytale lovey-dovey moments. Learning to handle illness is an essential lesson. My Oxford Year is a bittersweet romance about making decisions to live your best life.

The Dead Zone: Book vs. Movie — What Stephen King’s Story Gains and Loses on Screen
Some stories feel like they belong to the era that produced them. Stephen King’s The Dead Zone is one of those stories. It came out in 1979, full of post-Watergate disillusionment and a creeping anxiety about how easily a political strongman could rise in America. Four years later, David Cronenberg adapted it into a film starring Christopher Walken, and suddenly King’s sprawling novel became something leaner, icier, and more tragic.

If I Had Legs I’d Kick You Review: Rose Byrne Delivers a Stunning Portrait of a Mother on the Brink
Mary Bronstein’s If I Had Legs I’d Kick You arrives with a title that’s equal parts combative, darkly funny, and painfully honest. It perfectly captures the film’s central emotional conflict — the rage, impotence, and exhaustion of a woman who’s run out of ways to express how overwhelmed she truly is. You might assume the title refers to a literal lack of legs; it doesn’t. The legs and the kicking are metaphorical, a punchline shaped like a cry for help.

The Right Stuff: How the 1983 Classic Rewrote Tom Wolfe’s Vision—and Sparked a Gus Grissom Controversy
The Right Stuff: Film vs. Book and the Fight for an Astronaut’s Legacy There was a time when astronauts were among the most beloved people on the planet. In my childhood, I went to a grade school named for Neil Armstrong, and our district included schools honoring Virgil “Gus” Grissom and Edward White. These men weren’t just names on plaques—they were woven into the fabric of American heroism. When the Challenger tragedy struck, President Reagan said the astronauts had “slipped the surly bond of Earth to touch the face of God,” and regardless of how you feel about Reagan, the phrasing still hits with an undeniable, poetic power.
