Top Story - January 2025
Bouke de Vries

The Challenge

This will run from now until midnightish on January 31st

The challenge is to take an image from Bouke de Vries' site and use it as inspiration for a sad poem. The images are mostly damaged creations reformed into beautiful pictures.

The music is "Broken Arrow" by Robbie Robertson

I have written several which you can find here (one even got a top Story for some reason)

Bouke de Vries' site is here

The site starts in 2009 but goes up to 2024.

Share your poem in the comments, and include a link to this piece in it.

Noe: To get a tip you will need a Strype account

On February 1st I will award five random entries one dollar each via Strype, and include the stories at the end of this piece.

Thank you for reading and hope to see one or two poems in the comment section here

A lovely reply to my email to Bouke:

And my first story using one of his creations:

The challenge is now complete for random tip awards but would love to see more entries using Bouk's amazing creations. These are the five random ones that I have chosen:

The idea of using Bouke de Vries' artwork as inspiration for sad poems is brilliant. How did you come up with this unique challenge? The combination of damaged creations and beautiful pictures adds a profound depth to the poems. Thank you for inspiring us to create!

I had no idea who Bouke De Vries was until I stumbled across this post. Checked out his site and was suitably blown away. Inspired me to write a haiku based on one piece that was particularly impactful. I think depressing is a better word to describe it than sad, but definitely the opposite of hopeful and happy. Lol! Link below. Sorry I forgot to link this story in my piece. https://shopping-feedback.today/poets/mushroom-cloud-jo1tar0592%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E%3C/div%3E%3C/div%3E%3C/div%3E%3Cdiv class="css-w4qknv-Replies">

Collection Kay Saatchi, London. Soliloquy Synopsis : 👇 In a steady sense, this poem ingenuously  summoned me to dig deep —apparently, upon life’s incidental contexts: Dead Nature—Transformed! The description speaks up commandingly without a hitch about it. ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ ㅤ‿︵˓ ʚ♡ɞ ˓ ︵ ͜ ㅤ 𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑐𝑒𝑙𝑎𝑖𝑛. .ᐟ ⟢ ۫ 🦢ᰍ ‿︵˓ ʚ♡ɞ ˓ ︵ ͜ 🦢ᰍ 𝙳𝚎𝚊𝚍 𝙽𝚊𝚝𝚞𝚛𝚎 : 𝙵𝚛𝚘𝚖 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝙲𝚞𝚙 🍶 𝚘𝚏 𝙱𝚛𝚘𝚔𝚎𝚗 𝚅𝚊𝚕𝚘𝚛—𝚃𝚛𝚊𝚗𝚜𝚏𝚘𝚛𝚖𝚎𝚍! ㅤ 𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑐𝑒𝑙𝑎𝑖𝑛. .ᐟ ⟢ ۫ 🦢ᰍ ‿︵˓ ʚ♡ɞ ˓ ︵ ͜ 🦢ᰍ  Into dying arms of fate, my mien was staged stillborn  As topsy-turvy over twisted brows; Inlaid upon those majestic crowns O! Such stuff hung up in air quite contrary on its own  Into airings put forth as untenable breaches; Unto risings so tempestuously thrown O! Look! To that— A subdued pang, a dead beat to an impulse, still lingers on .. And ,as of , in cut-throat melancholy, none the worse, for that : I was born! Yet seeded beneath that constant twist of fate, a humble hope hankers to live on  For though, as in the broken, The wreathing harrows blow up their arrows, so frighteningly for “sorrows,”to forge on Therein, my feebler spirit lifts off of it’s own wings, to gently gather ……..hope……on its own O Yes! That hope -which lent my soul —to expectantly—carry on ! So, being fully grown, I built upon right, upon—on and on Thusly,  as the raging yonder fell —agone— as hell upon fury, eclipsing all my virtues so scurrilously spun To that, my heart, from bright red to cold white, sought it’s own contents’ calm  And thereof , thinking if I shut it close—that—would make it all turn warm ?! But —the rendering speech which lit up the everyday, got freshly born! As if, showing up in words, as it would, in all it's paradoxical forms— O! No! That gave off and I appear as a mere flaunt! Hereby —I dare to say: what’s hard and, above all —about which, others have blundered upon Unsayable, as it is, in this diverse world of unequals, the secular in me just carries on, to live on, Yes …. ‘Tis Quite right, when you say — I was transformed... Into another into which, my essence took shape to another form; with it’s casualness left to a yonder’s sojourn! Yes, it has all taken it’s own divergent turn… That was, when I was raw, with innocence falling upon my coffin ⚰️—for others, to mock on … Crucially so, then a rough ruffler was called thereupon , and with his two fold follies, he dug up graves —into which, I was casually thrown Not so much as in reality, my presence—no more to be seen in a porcelain cup —with no trace of it’s formerly, had completely gone  Thereupon, tacitly torn by a sense —so common — and left to tatters; Of that, which I  had claimed as my very —own —was forever ♾️ gone So , then on, Whereupon—While abhorring the senselessness which hopscotched my soul —as some evildoers pun  …   Perhaps then, the WILL—the bread n butter of my sustenance —kick- balled me to another powerless run  Seemingly thence —undetermined, it unraveled me into that person; For, in actuality, I was overrun! Perhaps ,That WILL , yes that will—which did well to distill my deaths’ —mocking return—had now come back home And there ,  For there in the grave —lay stand still, And that Heaven’s’ injustice, all smoothly wrapped up with all its ills —all gone To me … ‘Twas a total inversion of deep  faith; As all turned and reckoned into a nothingness of NONE Yes, it was an illusion … my ENTITY—smoothly sagacious and sailing smooth on every turn … O! Look 👀 there —into seas, this savage life —when so dastardly and daringly runs; Just to yield, to seek, it so quickly churns, As though, mixing one day with another, milking each day worse than the former one Yet …thereby —ultimately—turning it all into ☝️ ONE And in this course ,shrouding up in face, like a thistle twisted upon a full fledged frown  There —Onwards trickles this Crushing calm , halting those trembling tears that roll on — so long ! That in which we expect one thing, altogether another gets pushed around…   Those quivers on lips, bent over as holdings for some grandly staged song.. But, as to one whimper, a cry stills in silence —as to a tyrant’s sign, it all rises up on a twilight dawn  Thereupon, Beheld upon those moments, a gale unnoticed , rustles leaves 🍁 on it’s own ; appearing unseen as an aged-out worn … For to- day, fully and surely, onwards it rushes thro’ —all out —all around this town! O! Look ! It’s all unhinged, yet at lengthS— broken, all along those heartstrings, but all held together —as one ☝️ O! Yes, as one porcelain plain, all stitched together —O! so far gone ! © January 30th, 2025 Madhu Goteti
