"Dead nature 19, 2009": Bouke De Vries

I used to be enough for you

In the beginning

I was everything you needed

I cradled you tightly

And kept you safe

But all my love did

Was encourage you to grow

Giving you strength

Until you outgrew me

And my love

You pushed against me

As you stretched to reach the stars

Unable to follow you

I shattered

And set you free

But even as I lay in pieces

I see how magnificent you've become

My heart misses you

Yet it bursts with adulation

And contentment

Your beauty was able to flourish

You became what you were meant to be

Because I loved you first

And gave you space

When you needed it most

I always knew I could not hold you forever

It was my privilege

To cradle you as long as you needed me

And to let you go

When you were ready to fly
