My Thoughts on The East Blue Saga

My thoughts watching through One Piece: Possible Spoilers

By animetipzPublished about a year ago 4 min read

East Blue Saga Episode 1–61

It took me about a week to watch through this saga. It was the fastest I think I have ever watched any anime over 20 episodes. I know the pacing will slow down, and we got a taste of some filler at the end of this saga, but overall I thought this saga had amazing pacing.

I don’t want to just watch it, though. I want to catch up on the new episodes being released. I have no idea what to expect, but I want to write about my journey through One Piece. Will I be a ride-or-die fan? Will I end up hating it? I guess you will have to follow along to find out. I will post an episode guide below and want you to watch along with me.

Here is how I plan to write about it. There are 10 Sagas, with multiple arcs in each. I am going to write about each arc I finish and the overall thoughts about the saga when I finish. I will also be watching OVA episodes and movies, but I will write about them separately from the arcs and sagas.

Over 1000 episodes long, what am I thinking? I have always avoided long anime. I have no idea why but I never seemed to connect with anime that went on for more than 100 episodes. I have tried! Dragon Ball, Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, and Fairy Tail all started and stopped. I have heard so many amazing things about these long anime, but I struggled when it came down to watching it. It might be due to a short attention span but who knows?

So why on earth would I decide to watch one of the longest anime ever created? Well, I caved and watched the live-action adaptation. 8 episodes wasn’t long and I figured what was the harm? It is safe to assume I binged the whole show in one night and was instantly hooked.

After loving the live action I wanted to see if it did the anime justice. I am happy to report it did. I thought the live-action did an amazing job capturing this 61-episode saga in 8 short episodes. They killed the casting and brought out the best in each story. I am excited to see how they will do with the Alabasta Saga as I have been seeing more released about it.

I will make sure to link each arc review below for you to check out as well.

Romance Dawn Arc

What are my thoughts on the romance dawn arc? It was jammed back with characters, backstory, and progress in the main store. One piece is great at drawing you into the screen. I love that every character has their own time to have a back story, It causes you to have an emotional connection with the characters right away. The story is shockingly fast-paced, which I wasn’t expecting since the show is so long. I am hopeful it will continue with this pacing.

Orange Town Arc

Luffy and his crew of just one, are starting to build a reputation. Pirates underestimate them, The Marines want to capture them, and the people appreciate them for freeing their town and showing them that they are a different kind of pirate.

Syrup Village Arc

This has been my least favorite arc so far. I understand they needed to give some backstory to Usopp and this didn’t ruin the show for me. I was just grateful when this arc ended and I could move on.

Baratie Arc

So far this is my favorite Arc of One Piece. As someone who has worked in many kitchens, this is exactly what they are like. Whether you are the head chef or a line cook you all give each other a ton of crap but would also die for each other.

Arlong Park Arc

Arlong Park was a rollercoaster of an arc. We now know the main characters’ backstories and see the straw hat pirates in action together. Now it’s time to set sail and find the Grand Line.

Loguetown Arc & Buggy’s Crew Adventures

I enjoyed this arc even though it felt like filler. Yes, there are some important character introductions but aside from that it felt like a nice break after the last two intense story arcs.

Warship Island Arc

We are now finally on our way to the grand line. You can skip this arc if you watch One Piece for the first time. It was worth a watch, it was fun, creative, and had a bunch of dragons.

Overall I enjoyed this arc. If I am being honest I finished it in 3 days haha. It was a great introduction to the characters and the start of their journey.

Tomorrow I will post how this saga compared to the live action.

What were your thoughts on the East Blue Saga?

One Piece Fan Letter

We follow everyday people as they stumble across the Straw Hat crew. I thought this was such a fascinating look into the lives of the non-pirates in this world. The inspiration and terror they face. We follow a young girl who has found inspiration through Nami. In a world of muscle and devil fruit powers, normal people are seen as less than. She sees how Nami can go on grand adventures without any special powers and finds courage through Nami’s bravery.

Bye for now!
