Journey into the World of Pirates Arlong Park Arc
My thoughts watching through One Piece: Possible Spoilers

Episodes 31 to 44: Arlong Park arc
I thought this arc was action-packed and showed the true cruelty of pirates. We see more powerful pirates than any we have come across yet.

The first part of this arc kind of started at the end of the last arc, when Nami stole the going merry and Zoro went after her. We finally see why Nami is so treasure-focused and get to see her tragic backstory. I thought it was a plot twist to find out Nami was a part of the Arlong pirates this whole time and it made you dislike her at first.
Her backstory is the reason I like her character. We assume she is selfish and backstabbing, however we find out how selfless she is here. She was rejected by her sister and home island, she was abused by the pirates, and she stole the full amount she needed to buy back her town knowing the risk of stealing from pirates. She was going to help her hometown even if she could never return.
After this arc, she became one of my favorite characters.

Luffy has been a happy-go-lucky character, he fights for the fun of it and makes jokes about what's going on. This is where we see him become a true captain. Here is where we see Luffy walk the walk he has been talking about. For me this is the first time I saw Luffy as the captain and when I started to root for him to become king of the pirates.

I thought this arc also hit on racism. The fish people have been abused and used for their power until they realize they are more powerful than the humans controlling them. However, instead of starting fresh, they decide to get revenge and torment humans. Racism is horrible and I can't even believe in 2024 we still deal with it. But I thought this was a great example of what would happen if you fight fire with fire. All it did was cause destruction.
I do have to give another shout-out to the live-action for crushing this arc. They got the storyline dead on and did an awesome job of making the fish people like the show. I wish we had seen the octopus man, but I am happy with what we did get.

My favorite part of this arc was Bell-Mere. She is the first badass female character we have seen so far. She went from being a marine to a mother and took so much pride in being a mother she would have rather died than admit she didn't have her girls. Besides Luffy, she is the only character that gets the drop on Arlong and even though it is short-lived, it is still awesome to see her point her rifle in his face. I believe her strength made Nami and Nojiko such strong independent women.

Arlong Park was a rollercoaster of an arc. We now know the main characters' backstories and see the straw hat pirates in action together. Now it's time to set sail and find the Grand Line.

So far this is my favorite Arc of One Piece. As someone who has worked in many kitchens, this is exactly what they are like. Whether you are the head chef or a line cook you all give each other a ton of crap but would also die for each other.

Reviving Ranma 1/2: Classic Anime Gets a Fresh Modern Look
I have wanted to watch Ranma 1/2 for as long as I can remember. The length was the only thing preventing me from starting it. With 161 episodes, 3 movies, and 12 OVAs I have been putting off that commitment for a while. To my surprise when I logged on to Netflix there was the first episode of a new remake. I put it on right away and I'm already excited for episode 2 to be released.
Anticipated Fall Anime: Dandadan Takes Center Stage
Dandadan has been one of the most anticipated animes this year. I hadn't read the manga, so I knew very little about this story, but I was excited to see if it lived up to all of the hype.
Have a wonderful weekend!!

This was the arc that really sparked my love for One Piece. Nami’s backstory is one of the strongest, it was so heart wrenching. You really feel for her. That scene where she asks Luffy for help always hits me. And Arlong was a fantastic villain and a true pirate. One Piece will continually dive into that theme of racism even more later in the show in an arc I consider fantastic and even better than this one. And man, I also wish we would have gotten Hachi in the live action! He becomes a kind of important character way later on, or at least a recurring one, so maybe the show figured they would never get that far and it wasn’t worth the budget? Not sure.
