The Marines recalled the significance of the Tun Tavern, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. “It’s only right that the Corps be established in a bar. I just love it,” Corporal Hattie Tye announced before drinking another beer at the local bar in Yuma, Arizona. Two other corporals, Jason Century and Donna Fisk, enjoyed their Friday evening. They were able to decompress and take in the scene.

Marine Corps Stories: Barracks Cuts
The Monday barracks cuts looked rather horrendous. Particularly given the fact that the Marines had been briefed on the idea of actually going to a professional who knew what they were doing. Some hairlines zagged, the fades were too high or uneven. It looked like a circus with these junior Marines showing up for work.

Marine Corps Stories: The Commandant's Color
Resplendent in his evening attire of dress including red and white and gold. Of course, the midnight blue offered a feast for the eyes. The first black Commandant in Marine Corps history walked with his wife. He was sixty-two and she was forty. The evening went well until it was announced that Iran had attacked a barracks in Tehran that housed forty Marines. Sixteen of them were dead and a few more were injured.

His Selfishness
His ability as a physician allowed people to look past his black skin. He had been a doctor for thirty five years. Now, he was the head of his department of surgeons. He led a team of twenty different doctors who knew what they were doing. It kept him within the framework of being the top of his game even if the top of his head showed gray.
