“We preach that selflessness, unselfish self-sacrifice, but we don’t believe it. We know that we really don’t care about the next Marine. We’re looking for that promotion or pay and bennies or bonus,” Staff Sergeant Leonard Watley announced.

“I disagree. I think that our selflessness is what makes a team,” Sergeant Tim Bannister said.

“It’s not. Money is what keeps us together. It’s selfish and true. If I were to shield you from a round, that would be selfish.”

“How?”

“Because your life is of value to me.”

Sergeant Bannister soon realized what the staff sergeant was saying. “I see.”
