As we are continuously searching for fresh creators and inspiring stories, this thread provides an opportunity to exchange and discuss the stories that have moved and motivated us on Vocal.
How to join the š¢ Raise Your Voice Thread:
- Introduce yourself in the comment section of this story and tell us what you create on Vocal.
- Shoutout a Vocal creator you recommend reading. Include the URL of a writer or story that inspired you and why.
- If you like a story another person has recommended, send that story's creator a like, leave a comment, and/or subscribe to them.
Please follow Vocalās Community Guidelines and donāt spam your own profile or stories in the thread. We encourage the community to report users or comments that break these guidelines.
We'll start the thread:
Oneg In The Arctic's poem Poetry Just for You is a critique of the commodification of art and the self-centered consumption of emotional labor. It calls out audiences who take from artists without giving anything back ā those who consume art as a way to feel something, without acknowledging the emotional weight carried by the artist.
In essence, the poem asks:
Do you see the person behind the art, or are you just using their pain for your own emotional gratification?

Grateful to find you all. I'm Courtney and I found Vocal about 3 weeks ago with 24 hours left to go in the Echoes of 2024 Challenge and a need to harness my feelings. All that turned into a V+ Subscription and the first 2 stories I've ever written and allowed for public viewing. So, I'm just a girl trying to find my voice -and finding everything here, a great way to start. My new friend https://shopping-feedback.today/authors/shirley-belk%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/a%3E introduced me to this page, specifically. She's also the first 'stranger' to ever share my work (here)...and its one of those things that might be insignificant to one; but meant the whole world to me. Thanks, Shirley Belk! Cheers, Vocal Media Peeps!

Hi, Iām Natalie. I was looking through the photo challenge posts, trying to think of one of my own and found this story by Matthew Mccahey- how participation in a Yoko Ono art installation changed his life. https://shopping-feedback.today/photography/we-mend-one-piece-at-a-time%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E%3C/div%3E%3C/div%3E%3C/div%3E%3Cdiv class="css-w4qknv-Replies">
Hiya Vocal Community. I work a day job in policy analysis where I write about natural resources, especially water. I have been absent from Vocal for a while as I have been dealing with life, so I don't have any recommendations. My own writing has been on pause, as well, but I have goals for 2025 that will require writing, so I have, in essence, resolved to get back to it. Most of my work could be considered lifestyle blog posts, along with a few chapters of my in-progress novel and Vocal+ challenge entries.
Hi, I recommend this 2 part story by Caitlin Charlton. Raven Ridge: A Missing Person. A really interesting take on the afterlife. https://shopping-feedback.today/fiction/part-1-raven-ridge-a-missing-person%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E%3C/div%3E%3C/div%3E%3C/div%3E%3Cdiv class="css-w4qknv-Replies">
D.K.'s Top 5 for Some Spotlight 1. "Tear Drop Flaw" by MikMacMeerkat - A unique take on clones and the future that was a really gripping read. https://shopping-feedback.today/futurism/tear-drop-flaw%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/a%3E 2. "Gray One" by Gabriel Huizenga - This is the second poem/song lyric/performance video piece Gabriel has published and it's absolutely amazing. https://shopping-feedback.today/poets/gray-one%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/a%3E 3. "My 2025 Writing Goals Part Two: The Animated Series" by Bradley Ramsey - All three parts to Bradley's 2025 Writing Goals series are great reads, but I was totally blown away by the work he's put into The Chronicles of Clenchport. https://shopping-feedback.today/motivation/my-2025-writing-goals-part-two-the-animated-series%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/a%3E 4. "Raise Your Hands, Not Your Phones" by Paul Stewart - A very well written "rant" on enjoying the moment instead of recording it. https://shopping-feedback.today/01/raise-your-hands-not-your-phones%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/a%3E 5.
