Eaten by Death (micro-fiction)
Will death eat you today, or will it eat someone you know? Who will save you, and who will save them?
Every strand of her hair came loose from her scalp, they float like feathers above her head in a deriding hypnotising way. They touched her skin and tickled her cheeks, she tried to count them making her soul ever more doleful, failing to assuage her own shame.
Her thumb started to bend backwards unmasking her bone, then her skin turned yellowish orange, her body signalling an illness growing in secret. A toe pulled apart from her body under her sheet, her scream slashed her mouth, it opened wider than it could go.
Faceless beings wrapped in white sheet with no eyes cut out, she wondered how they could see, then they came towards her with a long needle and thick thread; one stationed at her toe, the other at her thumb and two at either side of her face. Her whole body went numb, the relief she was seeking was only transient.
They walked through the walls and never came back, then her mirror shattered and fell to the ground. The lights stayed on but they grew brighter, until they started to dim around her.
Her tv turned on, and on the news was the unfathomable, stirring fear inside her deteriorating body. Doctors, nurses, surgeons and the like, have all had the symptoms she was having, but none of them made it out alive.
She would breathe and then she would stop, only to breathe again many seconds later. Her hunger pains never came but the voices were there and one of her eyes started to blur. Her ring finger started to rot and turn to dust, the only thing she could do was to lie still and let it happen. The death she must face, where no one will save her.

I agree with JBaz, this is uncomfortable to read (not in an offensive way!), and for some reason it made me think of older people wasting away as their body just...stops doing what it does. Well done :)
😱Amazing writing CC! This reminds me of an episode of the Outer Limits/ Twilight Zone. Was she a plastic surgeon that was being haunted by some of her botched patients? That is what came to mind but I could be way off! Lol
That was different, Caitin. Like a bad dream, I don't want to have. You have a dark side to you. 😉😉
Oooo, that was soooo cool! Like whoaaaa, all those things happening to her, you described it so well, it help like I was watching it like a movie in my head! Loved your story so much!
Something about this feels uncomfortable. How you made the words flow into one haunting feeling is wonderul.
This is definitely a different type of story for me that will make a person think but not sure of what death or something else like death. Quite a psychological horror thriller as well with the decaying body that will not quit.
Wow, that’s haunting! The imagery is raw and gripping—like every detail is pulling you deeper into her unraveling fate. Chilling yet captivating, a vivid descent into inevitable doom.😉💖
Ohh! No, you made me feel restless and strangely uncomfortable; truly, it is horrifying ☠️ You have expressed fear, helplessness, and the unrelenting agony of death in a very vivid and dreadful manner. Remarkable 🙌✨👊
Oh my, what brought this on. I must say, I too have ruminated about this death thing, I really wish someone would let us know what lies beyond. Morbidly fascinating concept.
Quite the disturbing tale! Have you ruminated about death recently? I must confess that I had never considered the concept of death eating me before. Makes my skin crawl!
ooffhhhh.....
Oh my God, this story is so hauntingly vivid! It’s like I could feel her pain and see those faceless beings—gave me literal chills!
Disturbing! And I hope death will it eat someone else, not me today! 😁
