November's Great Rainbow - A Mikeydred November Dollar Prompt For All Vocal Creators

Introduction

Every month, I set prompts in the Vocal Social Society and offer a dollar tip to five random creators who participate, asking them to share their stories in the comments and on the thread in the group.

This is not official.

So What's Happening In November 2025?

I was listening to "Desolation Row" by Bob Dylan (probably one of my favourite songs) and the phrase "Noah's Great Rainbow" stuck with me, hence the title of this month's challenge. I've included it as the song. It is eleven minutes long but always feels far shorter to me.

I want you to write me a story or poem, with the theme being things related to the month of November, or use the featured song as inspiration, or the rainbow in the challenge title (so I expect Pride pieces).

November was originally the ninth month, but after Roman calendar rejigging, it is now the eleventh month.

The old Roman calendar started in March, so October was the eighth month. When the Roman senate changed the calendar in 153 BCE, the new year started in January, and October became the tenth month.

You can combine November and anything else for your poem or story, or take one of the ideas on the link or list below

Here are a few November days which may inspire you:

• November 1 is All Saints’ Day.
• November 1 is also Sadie Hawkins Day.
• November 2 at 2 A.M. is the end of Daylight Saving Time. Set your clocks back one hour on Saturday night at bedtime! See more about DST.
• November 4 is Will Rogers Day.
• November 4 is also Election Day (U.S.). Don’t forget to vote in state and federal elections! Every vote counts. Make an Election Day Cake to celebrate.
• November 11 is Veterans Day (U.S.) and Remembrance Day (Canada).
• If you’re fortunate, you may experience an “Indian Summer” in November, but according to the traditional definition, it can only occur between November 11 and 20! What is an Indian Summer?
• November 19 is Discovery of Puerto Rico Day.
• November 27 is Thanksgiving Day (U.S.). Understand the history and origins of Thanksgiving.
• The day after Thanksgiving, November 28 this year, is known as Black Friday.
• November 30 is the First Sunday of Advent, marking the beginning of the Advent season.

I will write and include an example story, but that won't be classed as an entry.
