Creeping Void
The stars are going out. For some reason, this doesn’t strike me as a sad thing. Nor a terrible one. I am seated on a couch, far beyond the crushing grip of our gravity well. Far beyond the light of our native star. For all that, I do not know where I am. Only that I am seated on a couch, the metal of the space station’s deck cold under my feet, with my arm around someone as we watch the stars go out.

Free as a Bird
Of course she’s learned to fly. I’d have expected nothing less. Not from the woman who’d clasp my face between her hands and say: “Don’t tell me the sky’s the limit when there are footprints on the moon. You’ve got to believe in yourself Cale. I know I do.”

You Must Be The Change You Wish To See In The World
“Spare a penny, young lady?” the old man asked, proffering a tin cup that had seen better days twenty years prior. Furtive eyes glanced quickly toward him, then away as high heels clicked past, their pace quickening.

Here Comes Santa's Clause
Making a list? Checking it twice? Old Saint Nick has sent a memo to several social media platforms wanting acknowledgement. Apparently he has updated his To Do and Not To Do lists. It's obvious he is hooked on updating his image, reshaping his game and considering shaving his beard of all things. Of course there's more to every story and I have been shovelled the task of investigating his identity crisis. Like I have nothing better to do than catch a flight up to the North Pole with two lame knees and a peanut allergy.

Wanderer
Some people have told me that I’m this way because I was born under a wandering star. Others say my name, Cain, has cursed me to roam the Earth just as the first person that bore this name was. I’m not sure if one theory or the other is right. Maybe they are both right, but probably neither one is correct. I am more like a magnet that hasn’t been able to find that special piece of metal to attach myself to. I’m searching for that unique attraction that doesn’t seem to exist, no matter where I look, and it probably never will. So, I continue to wander.

Remember when you pulled a rabbit from the hat in the form of a pregnancy test? Thought you tested positive for covid until I saw the words First response written in bold letters. My eyes sprung awake from a work-induced coma to meet the sparkle in yours. We were going to be the perfect parents.
