Snick! The door clicks closed. I can’t see her yet; she is too far away, the lighting too low. But I know it is her – recognise the way the shadows drape around her, shielding her from prying eyes. And so, I wait, patiently. It’s what I do: I sit, and I wait, and when she is near…

Dear Beatrice
Beatrice entered the kitchen half asleep even though it was four in the afternoon. There was a small pause, then everyone went back to their current activity. Somewhere, far below, the village of Kalpa was wrapped in mist, obscured by the thick veil of fog that always seemed to hover over the Himalayas at dusk.

The Encounter
It was an ordinary afternoon when Ruth first saw Daniel. The sun had dipped low in the sky, casting a warm golden hue over the city streets. Ruth had just finished work and was making her usual walk through the park, her scarf wrapped tightly around her neck to fight off the crisp chill in the air. The leaves crunched under her boots, and the air smelled of cinnamon and faint traces of burning wood from nearby chimneys.
