Creepers And Crawlers

The Vocal Stories That Buy Me Coffee

Introduction

I know the title might make you think this is about creepy insects, rats and mice but it's about how I get stories that continually get read.

I have covered this in depth before here:

This piece has been set off by a two-year-old Vocal story crashing my Top Ten. I think I may have shared it recently which may explain why it is where it is, and I think it is likely to move closer to the top which will provide a little more money to my bank account.

That Story And More Observations

The latest Creepers in Yellow

The four stories marked in yellow get a few reads a day, apart from the Poelay List which seems to be hitting fifty or more a day. It is not other Vocal Creators who are providing these reads, it is non-Vocal readers.

This is one of the things that keeps me with Vocal, the fact that I am paid when anyone reads one of my stories. While their statistics are flawed, overall the read count is probably accurate.

These Creepers and Crawlers only happen because I share my work outside of Vocal.

We all have hobbies and connections outside of Vocal and there are often groups for those on and off Facebook, and they can provide to with an audience for your work.

This may be slightly ironic because my friends on Facebook seldom read my work and didn't find my first audience til I joined VSS

That showed me that people would read and appreciate my work. I am a great music fan and write a lot of poetry, so I share my work in music and poetry groups on and off Facebook and it is those shares that give the reads, that Vocal pays me for, that buy me a little extra.

Another thing is that this morning I got another $5 tip for a picture on Pixabay and my AI Artwork is available for free here:

Since I started sharing I have had $15 in tips and one of my works has been used as the cover of a single that is available on Bandcamp here:

Conclusion

Although our love is writing, we would all love an income that we don't have to work for that would mean that we could write without worrying about bills.

I used the witches image because getting reads is a mystery to me and it seems to be magic that results in the many reads I am getting.

Thank you for reading and the 0.6c your read gives me from Vocal, and I hope that this has given you some ideas to think about going forward.

Are those the three witches from Shakespeare's time?

Great piece. It is weird which articles/ stories are popular. I am never sure what people like. Just happy when people read my stuff - other than my mum and my dogs!

You always give good advice and feedback, Mike. The image of the three witches reminded me of the movie 'Hocus Pocus' and the magic of being just able to write as you said w/o worrying about paying the bills.
