Don’t Be a Crab, Eat a Crab
Europe France Moules marinière à la crème is a dish that is popular in northern France. It is prepared with mussels, garlic, crème fraîche, parsley, white wine, butter, shallots, and aromatic herbs such as thyme and bay leaves. The mussels are steamed in a covered pot atop butter-sautéed garlic and shallots, with wine and a bit of water.

Silver Screen Magic with Marlene Dietrich
Marlene Dietrich came into this world on December 27, 1901, in Schöneberg, now Berlin, Germany. She was a beautiful German-American film actress who became on of the most glamorous film stars in the world. Dietrich was named the ninth-greatest screen icon from the Golden Age of Hollywood by the American Film Institute. She left this world on May 6, 1992, at the age of 90. She had one daughter, Maria Riva, who became an American actress and passed away on October 29, 2025, at the age of 100.

Best Artwork by Gustave Moreau
French Symbolist artist Gustave Moreau was known for his brilliant depictions of mythological and religious themes. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and took private art courses with artist Theodore Chasseriau. In 1857 Moreau went to Italy and studied the paintings of Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Giovanni Bellini. He became the professor of the artists Henri Matisse and Georges Rouault at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. The Musée National Gustave Moreau is in Paris.

Small Town Beauty in Washington
Coupeville is part of Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve and is the second-oldest town in Washington. It was settled in the 1850s. The town has a lovely waterfront with its historic red wharf. Many of the buildings date from the 19th century. The seafood restaurants serve locally sourced mussels.

Away From the Crowds in Ohio
In Logan, you’ll find the caves of Hocking Hills State Park. When the Wisconsin glacier started melting thousands of years ago, the waters flowed over the land that is now part of the park. They rushed through cracks in the ground, creating deep winding gorges and recessed caves. The caves are large enough to walk into, such as the Rock House cave.

Silver Screen Magic with Greta Garbo
Greta Garbo came into this world in 1905. She was born in Sweden and got her start in acting during the silent era, in Swedish films. Seeing her MGM chief Louis B. Mayer requested the actress to come to Hollywood. Garbo arrived and became a romantic leading lady with a beautiful silver screen presence. Mayer was worried about how she would sound on screen when talkies arrived because English was not her first language. However, in her role in the film “Anna Christie,” Garbo proved she could speak very well and it translated wonderfully on the silver screen. She became known for the line “I want to be alone,” portraying a depressed ballerina in the film “Grand Hotel.” Before anyone knew it Garbo actually retired from the silver screen and became a recluse, leaving wonderful memories behind.
