Squeezing Out Sparks
A Wonderful Analogy For Our Creative Writing On Vocal

Introduction
The song "You Can't Be Too Strong" from Graham Parker's "Squeezing Out Sparks" gave the album it's titel and appears in the song like this:
Yeah babe I know that it gets dark, down by luna park
But everybody else, is squeezing out a spark
That happened in the heat, somewhere in the dark, in the dark
I thought this was a wonderful analogy for the way we create our Vocal Stories.
Here Is Why I Think This
When we create our stories we start with something that prompts us, it could be a picture, a word, a challenge, an event, absolutely everything. Sometimes we just know where we are going to start, sometimes we may know where we are going (that is how our story will end) but not how we are going to get there.
Writing a story everything from a haiku to a sag is a journey. I will always remember that Neil Diamond said that he took eight weeks to finalize the phrase "I Am...I Said" from his song, so even the shortest article or story may still require a great deal of work on our part.
I love Tolkien's song from Lord of the Rings:
The Road goes ever on and on,
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow if I can
Which encompasses our journey when we create our tales, stories and poetry.
We start with the smallest idea or prompt, and then we use our mind and imagination to squeeze out the sparks from it to illuminate our creation and eventually light the fire that will become our completed story.

This was absolutely perfect. I could feel my creative juices stirring and flowing while reading this, you wrote about how we create our stories and what it takes to get it out. It wakes up our love for writing and can quite literally dissipate any writers block we might have. You're a hero for writing this, thank you!
Great insight, Mike! This is so true!
This was spot on! Totally agree with you!
Right on target, Mike. I am thinking about writing two books myself. One is a poetry book, and the other is going to be a compilation of all the book reviews I have published. There might be a third of all the Drabbles I wrote here.
You're so right Mike, I didn't think, that now was the time for me to start my fantasy novel, but the challenge Prologue got me going, and I love it!
