Free Fiona the Sheep!
A row has broken out over plans to rehome Britain’s loneliest sheep. The ewe, now named Fiona, was rescued after being stranded for more than two years at the foot of cliffs in the Scottish Highlands. But an animal rights group says plans to rehome her to Dalscone Farm near Dumfries would make her a “spectacle.” Fiona is now in hiding after activists turned up at Dalscone Farm— BBC News, 5th November 2023.

The Merella Papers
Note: this poem was written about a very personal moment in my life. I met my half-sister when I was living and working in Montréal as a grad student. I saw her photograph when I was a teenager, but it was many years before we met. And I wrote this as a way to understand my emotions and feelings about chance, love and how life can throw you curves you never expect.

Gold Frames...
March 12th, 1915... My Dear Beth, I know that you were born a month ago, and named for your mother, my dearest Bess. She tells me that she kissed my gold-framed photograph each night, now on your behalf as well as her own, until you are old enough to do it yourself. I pray that the Great War will be over before then, or that I will have had leave enough to come home so you both can kiss me in person, before that time.

The Conduit: Chapter 4
Max watched the detention unit for the next twenty-four hours, still dismayed by the age and appearance of the prisoner dubbed highly dangerous and of utmost importance to the group. She looked like she belonged in a freshmen dorm somewhere, not being treated like the world’s most dangerous terrorist. He sat in his office, watching the detention officers regularly circle the barrier field around her living space. She would watch them go around, as they checked the barrier field. She would follow their movements, and she complied with instructions when brought meals.

Completely on the fly (February)
How is everyone? How is life treating you? How are you treating life? It's finally February, and it feels like Christmas and the cold months are starting to slip behind us. I even bought daffodils the other day, when we were grocery shopping. The last bunch in the store. I love daffs, as they feel like the start of spring. I love the colour yellow. The sun has been shining too.

a kindle inspired breakdown. Runner-Up in The Metamorphosis of the Mind Challenge. Content Warning.
I'm not much of a crier but I used to be. I tell my counselor and my mental health nurse that quite often, when I am sharing emotional stories with them, I just cannot breakdown and cry. I even asked if it was my medication that I am on that just makes me unable to cry. My psychiatrist told me that sometimes we just build up emotional walls to certain things and when that wall breaks- you need to be prepared for it.

23 Line - an Original Song
This piece is for my New Year's resolution to share one original song, however imperfect/unfinished it may be, per month! I'll put the link to the article in which I wrote about this resolution at the end of this piece. I am just getting this submission in in time - drat February for having a quicker deadline than other months! I definitely would like to make some lyrical and melodic changes to this piece, and would very much like to do a few more takes in the hopes of a better-sounding version than this draft. But I'm tired and have a sore throat today - and I intend to keep my promise of sharing one song each month! So here is my early version of "23 Line." The title and chorus refer to the number 23 bus line in the city, which I often find myself taking to get here and there. One day, I was sitting at a bus stop for the 23 line and enjoying a particularly lovely sky - while a song began to play through my battered headphones, whose central theme also pertained to enjoying the 'big sky.' Feeling inspired in that moment, I jotted down a few lines about feeling like a rich man with 'the whole sky' being mine. Over the next little while, it developed into more of what you'll hear below. More themes, moments, and reflections gradually fed into it, adding some other layers - but I'd love to hear what you think of it, if you have the time to listen and comment! I understand the words and scenes might be a little ambiguous (especially the ending) but I would love to know what it makes you lovely folks feel and think about. I know what it means to ME...but that's not necessarily the most important thing when sharing a creative endeavor. But anyhow, that's just about enough blathering from me for today (though I do need to meet a 600 word minimum word count). Thank you kindly for stopping by! It means more to me than I can say whenever folks take just a few moments to take in a creative endeavor of mine. It's a true gift- so cheers, all. :)
