Player 2 Saved The Princess
For the past year, I have traversed the treacherous path of the professional creative. In the midst of an early quarantine breakdown, video games and knitting held together the shattered pieces of my eternally overachieving soul. With no job or general purpose in life, my self-image crashed full speed into a wall. I realized that I had centred my entire self-worth around my value as an employee.

The Pretty Little Daisy
Hello and good day to everybody reading this story. Today, I am here to nominate a candidate for EmPAWyee of the Month who I believe absolutely, one-hundred percent deserves it. She is a sweet and loving creature who, despite some of her quirks, is the best doggo anybody could ask for.

The Many Modes of My Art Studio Cat Assistants
My art studio is small and well used. It is just a little converted bedroom with an open walk in closet in the back of my home. One floor to ceiling window looks out on a pocket of a wooded forest with a little lake that I can see through a pattern of oak and pine trees. Occasionally a turkey or small herd of deer will walk past my window. Out of this wooded forest is where all of my art studio cat assistants have come from. They all showed up meowing, hungry, thirsty, and sometimes pregnant and needing a trip to the vet.

God of mischief.
What could be perceived as “just a dog” by others is, to me, a playful and loyal being, a constant and loving presence throughout a period of my life which often prompted difficult emotions. Since those words don’t convey the effect this companion of mine has, let’s try these: he’s the catalyst behind my transformative & healing journey... a road that now leads me to love, everyday.

Unlike My Dog, My Toddler Pees On the Carpet
While writing and housekeeping, I am potty training my toddler with minor success. My husband says my son is potty-trained: he just refuses to go in the toilet. This week he has peed on the carpet only feet away from the potty chair. In August, my toddler stood on the toilet and refused to sit. Instead, he turned toward me and aimed. I yelled, "No!" Still standing on the toilet, he pivoted toward the door. He smirked while he peed on the bath rug.

The Retiree
I stepped out of my jeep and headed toward the front door of my parents home. With each step, I listened for the tippy tap of toenails on tile waiting eagerly inside, but they never came. I jumped up the porch steps, and once I finally turned the key in the lock and pushed the door open, he stood there, big dark eyes looking up at me. Tail beating against the banister behind, the embodiment of my heart within the walls of my own chest. Immediately, I let everything fall from my grip, scattered it across the floor. I cared only about scooping his slobbery sweet cheeks into my hands, kissing his shiny black nose while he frantically licked my chin, cheeks, neck, as giggles poured out of me. The snow from my boots melted beneath my feet as we danced across the hardwood, content.

Willie Bee Wonder
I met Willie about 5 years ago when my next move was going to be at a farm down in Homestead, Florida. I was worried about being alone at the farm at night with not many neighbors in sight. Random as could be, one day a new friend of mine sent me a message asking if I would adopt a dog she found on the street. She sent a picture of "Willie" in that message, at the time he was being called "Morisson". I wasn't sure that name fit him... but once I adopted him he kept that name as his middle name: "Willie Morisson del Aguila". It was shortly after that message and introduction that my friend came down to the farm with the dog, and I spent the day interacting with him. Boy was I surprised at his charming nature. He was great!

Kovu The Great
I am a large, black Norwegian Forest Cat. My name is Kovu The Great, My hoomans just call me Kovu. And I am a bully. I had a rough start in life. When I was found outside I was malnourished and had a serious respiratory condition. I was so sick I almost died, so my sweet mama spoiled me endlessly. I was so spoiled that I could do no wrong, even when I picked on my poor sister Tootsie. Tootsie was cute and small and had no tail. I couldn’t stand it when she got attention. So I bullied her. And I never got punished.

World's Best Teaching Assistant
I never imagined myself to be the kind of person to dote on a seven-pound chihuahua, but life is funny like that. Yes, I was one of those people who got a pet during the pandemic, but my husband and I had been talking about getting a dog well before we got married, waiting until we were more financially stable and emotionally ready to devote as much of our attention as we could to adjusting our lifestyles to accommodate a dog.
