Cleo's First Puppy Show
"How would you feel about doing the Corsicana show in November?" Kathleen asked me last September. Dog exhibitors speak in shorthand that way. It's easier to say "the Corsicana show" than it is to say the "North East Texas American Eskimo Dog Association Show." And yes, "North East." I guess "Northeast" shortened the name too much for some people's taste . . . But I digress. In response, I asked two of the three important questions that every exhibitor thinks, first thing.

Keeping your pets safe (and calm) this holiday season
The holiday season may be magical for some humans, but for pets it only means confusion, changed routines, overstimulation, extra noise, guests or pet sitters come and go, and sometimes the festive season means danger for pets.

Cassidy's Walkabout
This is, fortunately, a better post than I have a right to make today. Some of you know about my Australian Shepherd, Cassidy. He's generally out at night, keeping foxes and the occasional coyote away. He's a working-bred Aussie, but he thinks that he's a pack of Great Pyrenees. On occasion, Cassidy used to wander, finding or creating a hole in the fence and taking off to parts unknown. He has been very good in the past few months, no longer even barking at the school bus as it goes by. This morning, he was as quiet as could be when the high school bus and then the middle school bus passed the homestead.

Moving...
No one ever said that moving would be easy. You have to pack all your stuff and load everything into the moving vehicles. Then, after driving to the new location, you have to unload and unpack everything at the new location. While making sure not to forget to clean both houses as you go along. Plus, having to change your address and or phone number with EVERYONE.

Cat Daddy
So it’s early 2025 and my mental health is in a bad place because of a year’s worth of life baggage coupled with a history of trauma. While beginning a quest to heal myself internally I was made aware of the common notion that cats make for good companions that aid in the improvement of mental health. Eventually I started discussing this with my closest friend who actually has multiple cats, one of which was pregnant at the time and we had an idea that it might be good for me to adopt one of her soon to be newborn kittens to help with my spiraling mental health. The outcome? I have now become a cat dad to a kitten named Bagheera S’mores.

I Tried Ollie for My Active Border Collie and the Results Were Amazing. Created with: Ollie.
As a dog mom living in New York City with my energetic Border Collie Alvin, feeding him the right food is a big priority for me. Alvin and I are always on the move—whether it’s fetching all over Central Park, running through a new agility course, or exploring on one of our many weekend adventures. His food not only has to keep up with his energy levels and give him the proper nutrition to stay healthy and active, but it also needs to fit in with our busy lifestyle. When I came across Ollie, a brand that makes dog food using all-natural, human-grade ingredients, I knew we had to give both their fresh food and gently-baked kibble a try. And let me tell you, Alvin and I both loved it!

Poppy is a 5-year-old red and white basset hound living in Brooklyn, NY. She came from a small town–having been born and lived her first two years in Mount Olive, a rural Illinois. I got her as a puppy when I was a senior in college, and my dad helped raise her while I was finishing up school.

Ditch the Kibble, Choose Ollie: Edna’s Secret to High Energy. Created with: Ollie.
Edna the Runt, my pint-sized Brussels Griffon, is a 3-year-old, 5-pound ball of energy with a personality that’s as big as her heart. While her social media fanbase, the EdHeads, loves watching her munch on a French fry in our weekly “French Fry Friday”, there’s much more behind the scenes to Edna’s diet that keeps her in top form (as much as we’d all love to live on a diet of french fries and cheese).

Tired of Stressful Feeding Prep? Ollie is the Easy AND Healthy Answer. Created with: Ollie.
Meet Gnocchi, my beloved English Bulldog, who has a larger-than-life personality packed into a squat, muscular frame. Gnocchi is obsessed with an array of peculiar things: from balls that he chases with the enthusiasm of a puppy, to plush sloths that he cuddles with as if they were his best friends. He’s even got a thing for pool noodles, which he drags around the house like they’re his prized possessions. But above all, Gnocchi’s greatest love is food. This boy is always hungry, no matter how elaborate or frequent his meals.
