The Sun Set On That One. Runner-Up in The Second First Time Challenge.
I lay the blanket out on the sand, but the wind immediately tries to dance with it. There are two good rocks at hand, about the size of baseballs but shaped and smoothed by the salt water's whims. They serve for two of the blanket's corners. My sandals serve for a third.

The Monster in the Closet. Runner-Up in I Wrote This Challenge.
Welcome to the Susan Sto Helit School of Child Headology. Lesson one: The Monster In The Closet. Example. Sprout's thudding footsteps on the stairs are my cue to close the social media app I’ve been doomscrolling and tuck my phone away. If I explained it, he would probably understand the concept of overcoming sleep inertia with the help of a screen stimulating my brain… but come on, he isn’t even nine years old. If he sees Mumma lying in bed, staring at her phone, he will learn that Lying In Your Bed And Staring At Your Phone is a normal thing to do.

Going Steady. Runner-Up in History Would’ve Burned This Page Challenge.

Then I noticed the palm scanner to the right of the door, and the complementary hand washing station beside it. I washed my hands, scanned my right palm, and sighed audibly at the little green light over the scanner.

Utopia, But Boys Will Be Boys. Runner-Up in Tomorrow’s Utopia Challenge.
I’m not sure exactly when I started holding my breath. Dr Pradhan told us that because we were equally qualified to conduct Earth Sample Interviews, the team would have to be chosen by chance. The department had sixty-five interested graduate students, but only five were allowed down to the surface of the planet. Dr Pradhan assigned us numbers by the arbitrary rule of birth order, then rolled one six-sided die and one ten-sided die to determine the lucky interviewers.
