Elliot
It was the kind of book store everyone imagines when they think of an Independent book seller. The same kind of quaint mom and pop feeling in You've Got Mail but bigger. Shelves handcrafted by the local carpenter holding the sectioned books in categories and alphabetized by title in some areas then switching to author in others; vintage tables with curvy carved legs holding stacks and stacks of coffee table books and bestsellers and featured items or remainders. The second floor was filled with soft leather couches and comfy chairs inviting you to not just linger....but read.

A Tail of Two Office Managers
During my day job, I have a human manager. But at night, for my preferred job of Aspiring Author, I have two managers, both of the feline variety. When I adopted Frodo and Pepsi as litter mates, I assumed that I would be the manager of their lives. But I was clearly mistaken, for even as wee babes, they were the ones who were managing me. For hours, they requested my constant facilitation of playtime. This usually involved a wand toy and a tunnel, and they would persist in so far as even dragging the wand to me at all hours of the day and night. Today, this still remains a task that they require daily.

How My Kitten Became My Best "Coworker" and Made Me Happy in the Process (with 50+ Pictures)
Chelsea appeared in my life unexpectedly - well, almost unexpectedly. I had unwelcome guests squatting at my apartment for a few months, and I needed someone to get rid of them. I'm talking about mice if that wasn't clear. Do you know how upsetting it is when you're a clean person who sorts food waste and recycling, and you still get rodents? Thank Godness it was only a few of them, and they made appearances rarely; having that said, I'm terrified of mice, and they turned my life into a living Hell.

Whats in a Name?
In the midst of a blustering October, I felt myself drawn to the website of the local animal shelter. Typically, I can’t bear to scroll through without the intent to adopt. But this particular day something pulled at me to visit the website. I jumped online and found myself on the adoptable cats page. Although I already had my wonderful tom cat, Cricket, a voice inside whispered that I needed something more. I scrolled through the many adoptable pets that tugged at my heart strings until I landed upon an old and grey cat. “Sir Meows a Lot” it said. His big glowing eyes looked deep into mine and I knew I was hooked.

The Stella Glow Up: An Adoption Love Story; EmPAWee Of The Month, Every Month
A little background as to how Stella and I met: I was fortunate enough to grow up with a family dog, and while a dog may be man's best friend, to an only child, they can sort of eventually feel like a furry little sibling.

My Fiancé's keeper
This is Dagda. We call him Daggy of course, as well as little buddy, baby, big boy and other nonsense. He is a Groeenendael x Bull Arab cross, who likes to chew on his toy skunk and sit on people when they're trying to watch TV . The name 'Dagda', derives from 'The Dagda' of the 'Tuatha De Denann', a supernatural race from pre-Christian Gaelic Ireland (can see the obviously Wikipedia sourced article here). My fiancé named him as such because Dagda can be seen as a big hairy Hagrid mutha who protects and teaches, and represents strength and wisdom. Our Daggy is an assistance dog, and his primary roll is to provide physical, psychological and emotional assistance for when my partner cannot keep her head above water all on her own.

Help Wanted: Seeking Kitty Girl Friday for Light Office Duties, to Fill Family Furball Role
Two adorable green eyes peered out at me from a Craigslist ad – over whiskers that extended well beyond her little furry face. She had one paw delicately curled underneath her – and she looked small enough to fit in the palm of my hand.

The Artist's Cat-prentice
It was during the summer of 2018 that I realized my cat, Imo, was an artist like me. I recall there was an artsy connection between us when I first saw his picture prior to adopting him- I was instantly drawn to his white fur, his blue eye, and his gold eye. He was a work of art: a khao manee exotic cat. Still, I was surprised when that June, as I began a large acrylic painting for my job, Imo showed up for every single paint shift.

Hi, I'm a Writing Tutor
Yes, Canine Autism is a thing. It's still getting researched. Some vets accept it; others are more skeptical. The behaviorists and professionals I sought out in desperation agreed that my dog is, indeed, autistic. Some people laugh in my face; others' facial features are washed with understanding. A few people even said, "I think my dog has it too." Let me tell you, having an autistic dog isn't easy, and working from home with him makes things even more complicated.
