If You Only Learn One Thing in 2021, Learn How to Say No
In the past week, how many things have you done that you didn’t want to, just because someone asked you to? I’m not talking about your boss, although we’ll get back to them in a minute. I’m talking about your friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors. The constant parade of people that seem to hone in on you and you alone when they need something.

7 Small Changes You Need to Make for Your Life in 2021
A couple of days ago, I wrote about my feelings on New Year’s Resolutions in general, and I stand by that. But regardless, I know many of you are looking around for things you may want to do differently in your life. It’s just that time of year. And I’m no different. Arbitrary or not, tomorrow begins a new year, and especially after the one we just lived through, it marks a new beginning. Or at least a chance of one.

What I'll Gain From Leaving My Dream Job
In many ways I got everything I wanted in 2020, I landed my dream role at my dream company, I moved to my dream city, and everything seemed like it was working perfectly towards the 5 year plan I had put together in my head despite lockdowns and restrictions. January 2021 however, was called in with me sat in the flat my landlord is selling that I could no longer live in, unemployed again, and desperately uncertain about what my new 5 year plan would look like.

New Year, Same Me
"We're going to do things differently when I get home, okay? Things are going to change. Do you believe me?" My partner asked me these questions from the ICU over Facetime. "I believe you," I said, laying on our bed and wondering if he'd ever make it out of ICU. I realize now how easy it is to say everything is going to change when everything had already changed. He spent the entire month of December in the hospital with Covid-19 while I stayed at our empty home and dreamed of what we'd do when he was home. We weren't the same people we were when he was out of the hospital. We cared more about the little things. We made promises for the tomorrows we hoped would come. We weren't living as ourselves. He was finally released from the hospital, and we started our new lives.

To be 'a part' or 'apart' ?
Life is rife with opportunities. Some we look for on. Some come to us accidentally. Some are welcome while others might not be. Yet in all this is a choice. To do or not to do. I have spent as much time mulling over whether to do something as much as I have sleeping. I love sleeping. I came to realize though that with all the 'should I', 'shouldn't I' that goes around I totally lose sight of what is and what could be. Now while I do generally try to take life as it comes I have also come to the conclusion that some things need self-influence to come about.

My New Year's Resolution is: I Have None.
Where I come from, people don’t make New Year’s resolutions. Instead, they make New Year’s wishes. And they assure them by performing a series of rituals that look pretty funny from the outside. At the stroke of midnight, the average Colombian household will carry out at least a few of the following practices, if not all of them:

Own It
A wise man named Gary Vaynerchuck once said: “Comfort is a drug. Comfort is where dreams go to die.” All our lives, the default we've all known was to enjoy your childhood, go to school, get to a good university or college, get a stable job, retire at 65 and enjoy the remaining days in the hourglass.

The Light in Me
In the past two years, this physical world has thrown me into the rolling coaster game that lifted me up and crushed me down, frustrated the issues taking place around the world. I lost confidence and boldness, starting questioning who I am, why the Creator of this universe sent me here. I experienced being joyful, excited, sad, disappointed. There is one thing still raising up in me: Hope.

Sometimes you just gotta get your hippy on
I love Venice Beach on a Sunday. It’s literally my favorite day. It’s so alive. The street performers are drawing their crowds; the roller skaters are living their best lives on the rink; the vendors are hustling their art; the skaters are defying gravity and doing mind blowing feats; and the drum circle is pulsating it’s rhythm like a beating heart.

Rising star in the making
I had every reason to start 2021 feeling empty, lonely and most of all, hopeless. I spent Christmas in isolation because of testing positive for Covid, my grandmother passed just before we welcomed the new year and for the first time in my life I lived 2000 kilometers away from my family and friends, all of which lead me to anxiety and inner turmoil. Looks bad, does it not? Well, like Nietzsche said, one must have chaos in oneself to give birth to a dancing star.
