breakups
When it comes to breakups, pain is inevitable, but Humans thinks that suffering is optional.
Birdie
Birdie Orientation: Day 1 Welp. Here I am I suppose. Freshly orientated. Whatever that means. My room is small, but I guess what did I expect? I didn’t think they were going to walk me to my palace. It’s a lot more dorm-like. In fact, I’m supposed to have a roommate but, I guess I lucked out.

notes on last night's dinner
Charlie sat in front of the Mario Arbuckle painting in the Smithsonian Museum of American Wonders as the scene from the night before played in his mind. His girlfriend had left him at the restaurant where he’d taken her to celebrate her promotion, which she had beat out seventeen other junior associates to win. The promotion came with a $20,000 bonus, even. She had worked relentlessly for the last eight months, rising at five most mornings so she could squeeze in a run before showering, slip into one of a dozen of her dark suits, pour a big cup of coffee, and walk to her office a mile from their apartment. At the office, she researched case law and drafted motions to defend doctors from their former patients. Who, the former patients alleged, the very professionals with whom they had entrusted their health and welfare had managed, sometimes even intentionally and maliciously designed, to exploit that trust and to actually even further complicate and damage the already tenuous physical states of the patients they had been charged to care for and heal. Allegedly, of course, she always added. The doctors had taken oaths, the allegations always intoned, and had broken them, tumbling from their pedestals, now crumbled pillars of the community.

Sweet Revenge
Today was our 7th anniversary. Dan had a surprise weekend planned for us. His mood had been super excited and bubbly, until today. He had a glow on his face but now it has faded. I tried to push the feeling away this morning when I rolled over in bed and he wasn’t there to greet me with a wide smile. I slipped into my favorite black dress as Dan walked into the room. I twirled in front of the mirror hoping to catch his eye.

Matilde
Matilde is struggling to keep her mind clear but lately she has been losing touch with reality and is slowly descending into madness. Walking home, she slips underground like the other city rats into the subway system. Matilde hates the subway but needed to take cover, It was a hot muggy day in July and it started to rain heavily. She was wearing her nice 1950’s inspired black strappy dress like the one Sophia Loren wore in that famous photo of her. As she entered the subway, she bought a Lotto scratch ticket at one of the kiosks to keep her occupied on the ride home.

Shattered Desires
The moment in which you realize you’ve won not the prize but the leftovers of his being. You’re not the priority, not the enjoyable hobby, not even the lustful pleasures in which he fantasizes about late into the night. You’re merely the scraps within his boredom. Nothing to do, no where to go… the original plans have cancelled and now in need of a seat filler kind of scraps. That moment when he returns from the bathroom after filling your temple with his toxic energies and poor nutritional substances, only to look at you for a moment, then walk away without a single thought of your vulnerabilities. You lye there in wait, anticipating what’s next. Breakfast in bed perhaps, time to spoon, maybe even that massage you’ve practically begged for.

Lost and Found Out
Darien knew he was a good creative writer and never needed anyone to support his ideas. He didn't need anyone to critique his work because he considered himself as his own toughest critic. Countless times Darien had started a project only to discard it because he felt something was missing.
