The original company. Back in 1933, Mr. Lado had the foresight to leave Sudetenland with all his rhinestone inventory and settle in America before Hitler came and took it all. He packed it up and sent it off without telling anyone, then closed down his factory and he and his wife traveled to New York City. There he opened a rhinestone jewelry company using his existing stock as well as importing rhinestones from colleagues still in Gablonz and Germany. Over time, he became one of, if not the biggest, rhinestone jewelry manufacturers in New York City, located in the heart of the garment and bead district at 31 Union Square, NY. 10003. Listed eventually as a domestic business corporation on 6/20/1965, the company was dissolved by proclamation/annulment by authority on 12/24/1991. NYS DOS ID#189347.

Pueschel Buttons ~ Made in Sudetenland
Being importers of glass beads and buttons from Czech Republic; and knowing the history of the makers of these buttons from our years of going to the region formerly known as Sudetenland, it was quite a surprise when a customer of ours showed us some metal buttons made in the same region but unknown to us. These buttons were made from non-ferrous metal. The buttons had various stampings, molded designs and colors fused on top and inside the designs, and some had painted coatings. They were quite lovely. The owner of these buttons happened to live quite close to us, and had a story to tell.

The new Czechoslovakian government, under the terms of the Benes agreement hashed out by Stalin, Churchill and Roosevelt, started to evict the Suduten Deutsch from the country. They had 48 hours to pack 40 kilo’s of belongings per family and leave the country. This was called by the ethnic Germans impacted by the deportations as the wild deportations.
