Before The Boys Season 5, Homelander Has Already Lost His Biggest Strength

Homelander’s Lost Edge (THE BOYS Season 5)

By Dena Falken EsqPublished 5 months ago 2 min read

Homelander had one major edge over almost every other supe in The Boys universe, but he has seemingly lost it before the show's season 5. The emergence of this new weakness could significantly harm Homelander and eventually lead to his downfall in the Prime Video show's final installment.

Since The Boys season 1, Homelander has been portrayed as an overpowered supe who strikes into fear almost all other superpowered and non-supe individuals who dare to confront him. Even in one-on-one showdowns, only a few supes like Queen Maeve have come close to hurting him, proving how incredibly strong he is.

However, one sequence from The Boys season 4's ending reveals that Homelander has lost one of his biggest strengths. This strength once played a crucial role in saving his life, but going into The Boys season 5, he will no longer be able to rely on it as a safety net. With this loss, the overpowered supe already seems more vulnerable and less overpowered than ever.

After The Boys Season 4, Homelander Is Not The Only Supe Who Can Fly

In the original The Boys comics, many supes have the ability to fly. Even Tek Knight, despite primarily being portrayed as a Batman-like vigilante, possesses technology that grants him flight. The Amazon Prime Video show, however, significantly changes this aspect by only giving Homelander the power.

Apart from Homelander, Stormfront has been the only character in the series with the ability to fly. Even though Stormfront eventually died, both she and Homelander were incredibly overpowered compared to most other supes, and their ability to fly gave them an even bigger edge.

After Stormfront's death, Homelander was seemingly the only character in the series with the power to fly. However, The Boys season 4's ending revealed that Starlight, too, had reached her true potential and finally acquired the power to soar up in the air. Interestingly, season 4 also featured a scene in which the new Black Noir shows the ability to fly.

Even in Gen V season 2's trailer, Marie makes Jordan float in the air by seemingly controlling their blood. She might be able to do the same to herself in the near future as she gets stronger. With so many new characters with the ability to fly in The Boys, Homelander is not as unique a supe as he once used to be.

Homelander's Flight Ability Has Saved His Life In The Past

The Boys Season 3 Herogasm Episode

During the epic Herogasm fight from The Boys season 3, Soldier Boy, Billy Butcher, and Hughie had pinned Homelander down and nearly killed him. Homelander only managed to escape because of his ability to fly. If it wasn't for his power of flight, the trio might have overpowered him for good.

Gen V season 2 is scheduled to be released on Amazon Prime Video on September 17, 2025.

Now that many supes can fly, Homelander does not really have a unique escape route or mobility advantage. What once gave him a significant edge and mobility advantage is now a shared ability, which reduces the gap between him and his enemies. This alone could pave the way for the end of his reign in The Boys season 5, and the likes of Starlight and Marie might have a shot at beating him.
