First of all, happy new year, as this is the first time I’ve updated my blog since 2024, and, truth be told, the first time I’ve updated it in a while. Unfortunately, however, my new year began with some fairly sad news when I read, whilst sat in a pub on New Year’s Eve, about the passing of Radio DJ, Johnnie Walker. Although we all knew it had been coming as he had been ill for a while, and had recently hung up his headphones for good, I remarked that I don’t think I’d ever been quite so gutted about the passing of someone I’d never met.

Party Train by The GAP JANUARY 1, 2023, we awoke early to finish preparations for guests and our good luck New Year's Day meal for friends and family. "Party Train" by The Gap was blasting throughout the house; we danced around the kitchen while my husband prepared the meat, and we set out snacks. Guests were arriving impatient to eat his exceptional food. We had collard greens symbolizing greenbacks (folding paper money), black-eyed peas to bring wealth in coins, and lima beans and rice, our standard comfort foods for gatherings. He always makes chicken and sometimes his famous baby back ribs.
