Standing on Top of the World

Listening to music is sure to bring up a wide range of emotions. It's amazing what listening to just a few moments of our favorite songs can do to help lift our spirit. 

Here are some of the songs that empower me and uplift my spirits. 

Whatever It Takes (2017) - Imagine Dragons

I could do a whole playlist of songs just by Imagine Dragons that uplift my spirits! Mentioning the sometimes impossible challenges in life and persevering through them, this song (and many others by Imagine Dragons) is incredibly moving and powerful. 

This song is a great reminder to attempt our very best and that sometimes the challenges we face are not setbacks but only stepping stones. 

I'm Still Standing (1983)- Elton John 

This motivating pop song is not only dance worthy but absolutely uplifting to the down heartened spirit. 

Hearing this song gives me a nudge to persevere and my spirits are lifted whether they are in need of lifting or not.

It's My Life (2000) - Bon Jovi

Edgy rock elements blend with soul lifting lyrics in this powerful and inspiring song by classic rock legend Jon Bon Jovi. I can easily say that it is one of my top favorite songs from the music artist. This is one of Bon Jovi's songs from later in his music career and it gives a refreshing change of tone compared to his 80's era songs. 

Flowers (2023) - Miley Cyrus

To be honest, I wasn't much of a Miley fan before, so I never really paid much attention to this song. 

At one point, after hearing it play on one store intercom system after another due to it's then recent release and its popularity, I found myself reflecting on the lyrics and ultimately feeling inspired by them. 

"Flowers" gives off a strong sense of independence and most particularly, self confidence and self love. 

While this song reminds me of a strong self confident woman to be admired, its message of self confidence and self love truly does apply to anyone.

Unstoppable (2016) - Sia

Beginning with a slow, self reflecting tone, this song evolves into a slow yet steady pace to reflect the build up of confidence. Suddenly, it breaks forth into a glass shattering tone of untouchable and unstoppable invincibility. 

I Just Wanna Shine (2019)- Fitz and the Tantrums

This fun and quirky song is all about seizing the day. I don't think I can listen to this song without smiling and I challenge you not to smile as well. 

It has an upbeat yet chill vibe guaranteed to put you in a feel good mood.

It's an excellent reminder to make the most of your day and not let your own self doubt get in the way! 

Lose Yourself (2002)- Eminem

This rap song with edgy rock elements by rap legend Eminem is about realizing your true potential and taking advantage of opportunity. 

Its powerful and strongly uplifting message reminds us that we might only get just one opportunity and not let it slip away.

Every song on this list has uplifted my spirits and helped me to see past my self doubt. Some songs like Imagine Dragon's "Whatever It Takes" or Eminem's "Lose Yourself" give off a powerful edge that motivates me to pull through. They're like that hard yet well intentioned push on the back to go for it. 

Others like "I Just Wanna Shine" and "I'm Still Standing" carry a more fun and upbeat vibe like a bright summer day. Nonetheless, they still possess a much needed motivational message to power me through and make me feel like I'm standing on top of the world.
