Winter Daily
There is a ritual I perform daily for the three long months of winter. I've only done this for a few years now. Before, I lived in a place of perpetual summer. A place where the summer sunshine lasted year round. That is, aside from one week where the sweaters would come out until mid-morning, only to be taken off in a fit of panic and sweat before lunchtime and then shoved into backpacks or carted around on our arms for the remaining daytime. At the end of the week, the jumpers were placed back away again and left forgotten for another fifty-one weeks until the next winter season.

I've always thought about maps in terms of their colours. The relationship I have with my best friend is orange. Orange, to me, is a mix of colours. We all know the yellow and the red. We were born on the 3rd of October, in the hospital on Fourth Street, and our mother's called us Edward. We lived a block away from each other our whole lives. He lived on Strathman Avenue, a stones throw away from Portman Avenue where I lived until I was ten years old. When my family moved, I changed schools to the Catholic college in the east of town.
