Castles in the Sky. Top Story - November 2024. Content Warning.
I remember the sparkle in those green eyes, the day we met. I recall the flash of her red hair in the sun and the way the freckles danced on her cheeks when she laughed. And that laugh – pure music. I learned what “lilting” meant that day.

Night Storm
light splits the heavens while ebony clouds explode dark rivers run wild *** After an all-night thunderstorm (which makes me sleep peacefully), we were awakened by a huge lightning strike this morning. I woke with this haiku in my head, so I decided to share it even though the challenge is closed. Probably for the best, since I've entered too many already. It's still pouring outside.

Orbital Paradox
strings of satellites for the sake of connection isolate our world *** Author's Note: I love all things space, but I love space more. According to the ESA, there are currently more than 35,000 objects being tracked in orbit around our planet, but the number of pieces of debris over one centimeter is over a million. What intelligent species would work so hard to block out the stars?

The Fall of Altair
The river ran backwards on the day the Queen vanished. A subtle slowing of the flow began in the early morning and became increasingly obvious over the course of a few hours. That's when we started to feel the land beneath our feet tremble slightly, then drop slowly in the direction of the setting twin moons.

Dark Horse Rising
equine enigma thundering through the heavens my heart rides bareback *** Authors Note: Once again, I didn't intend to submit another entry for this challenge, but Teresa Renton's "Authenticity" made me realize I had another one up there in my brain, based on a photo I used for another challenge entry several years ago. If you'll pardon the recycling of a favorite image of mine, I think you'll find the subject up there, galloping out of the clouds.

Babel, Revisited?
how high will you climb as you push my clouds aside you are not welcome *** Author's Note: This one was inspired by the lovely and talented Donna Fox, with a comment on my previous entry, which could be seen as more of a senryu. With that in mind, I thought I'd create one from the perspective of the sky, itself.
