A powerful winter storm is currently wreaking havoc across a significant portion of the United States bringing with it a mix of snow ice and rain. This storm is the first in a series of three back to back winter storms expected to impact the country this week. The first storm has already begun dumping snow and ice over a 1,500 mile stretch of the eastern United States affecting areas from Kentucky to the mid Atlantic region. The second storm is expected to follow closely behind bringing the most substantial snowfall of the season to Chicago while the third storm poses a serious flood threat to Southern California the most significant since the devastating wildfires in January. In Washington D.C snow began falling in the mid afternoon on Tuesday and is expected to continue overnight. Forecasters predict up to 6 inches of snow could accumulate potentially disrupting travel during the afternoon and evening commute. This winter has already seen more snow in the nation’s capital than the past two winters combined highlighting the intensity of this year’s winter weather.
