The magic of spring midnight is my favorite drug Door open, cool breeze, work piled up as I breathe In new life, out at last winter’s freeze
If you wondered what magic sounded like I’d invite you to my roof at midnight You’d hear the sounds you’re not meant to hear
Oh how to be so alive as in that moment The space between my racing heart The skipped record scratch on four So alive in mind and body whole
It’s in the way you walk And the way you talk The way your lips curl around In a smile hosting each syllable Boasting each letter just so
Dear body, I see you You’re changing again Ever so slowly An agonizing trend I look at you with fresh cut eyes And wish on you with best kept lies
Silver sliver in the southwest sky Winking slowly at lovers and like But what do you know oh what do we show The all seeing ever present why
Pinks and blues cloud my vision As the world walks past The me sitting under that crabapple tree Waiting for that untimely fall
I’ve had a temporary insanity An ought quickly passing profanity One that sought me and taught me Something new or else something true
At times I feel As if I am air Nothing but a whisper A still invisible force Not insignificant so much As undetectable to the naked eye
Though, I should say, at other times That air catches in my lungs Strikes on the words alight on my tongue The very fire of life engulfs
I’ve got a million little raindrops In my right back pocket filled With strings and beads and glitter To lighten up my fresh spring gild
