Your Vocal Comments
Well, How I Write Mine

Introduction
I think that Vocal comments are a great addition to the Vocal model. This previous piece captures some of my thoughts on them if you want to check it out. It is a bit tongue-in-cheek but does contain some serious points.
I know that I do not comment enough or read enough stories, otherwise more Vocal Creators would read mine, but I do get a lot of reads from non-Vocal readers (I don't know who they are, but I wish I did), so I cannot complain too much.
The music is "What I'd Say" by Ray Charles
So How Do I Comment?
I may do this differently from you, but if time allows I like to give two or three lines on the piece that I have read, with some points to illustrate that I have read the Vocal story.
Sometimes I am rushed and I may only be able to leave something like "Great Challenge Entry" or "Wonderful Words" for poetry, but short comments let the Creators know you have been in their story.
I have had some comments that would make a Vocal story on their own, but do significantly enhance my stories, and I always try to add to other creators' stories if I can, but sometimes the story is so complete that all you can add is your congratulations.
I seldom congratulate people on Top Stories because they have been recognised by Vocal with a five dollar tip and a slew of congratulatory comments, but I try and leave a comment about the story itself and why it was worthy of a Top Story.
Conclusion
On Vocal I believe we are part of a huge supportive community and we can all help and encourage each other. Your comments on my stories make me feel cared for and valued.
We see this in the Facebook Vocal groups where we can share our works and grow our audience and swap ideas with other Vocal Creators.
I will conclude now with my poem to pay tribute to some of my most treasured Vocal Facebook groups.

when I received your comment, it felt like a sincere thank you card--- and it was greatly appreciated-- i am glad you have shared your method of passing on encouragement---
I am not good at leaving comments, because I want to say something meaningful and that can take time to articulate. But I find your contributions to the community really valuable, including this piece.
True, it's always good to see people's feedback on your work, because that's what makes you improve and get better. Whenever I can, I always try to comment on what I read too, even if it's a short compliment, because I know it means a lot to some people...😊
I try to say something positive about what I have read or add something meaningful. I have seen many comments that leave me thinking What did that mean? or Did they really read what I have written? It should not be that way.
Agreed! I wonder tho, how to drive more non vocal readers to my page. I don't tend to worry about comments. Just let it happen naturally
This resonates, Mike! I love to leave comments when I can, but sometimes as you put it, the piece is so complete there's nothing much more to say than how much you enjoyed reading it. Sometimes after I've left a few comments, I worry they begin to sound the same, even though the sentiment behind each one is genuine and unique. Either way, I'm always happy when I leave a comment and delighted to receive them, too! It's a great little ecosystem and helps to foster a connection between the work, readers, and writers. Thank you for writing this piece and sharing your thoughts, Mike!!
Seems you are a man after my own heart! Sometimes (especially lately, with so much catching up to do) I have too little time to leave a comment as thoughtful as I'd like. I like to pick something that stood out to me, my favourite line or something like that. You can write, "good story" on absolutely anything, right? Time allowing, it's nice to show we did actually read it and engage with it ☺
This is pretty much how I like to do it too. I need to involve myself a little deeper in the community now that I don't have any social media accounts.
Well said Mike. The likers who do not comment are getting annoying though...makes me not want to read and comment. Luckily we long time folks still support each other.
Yeah I’m in a similar boat. I also feel the same about reads - I do try and reciprocate reads, but I also don’t expect people to read my stuff just because I read theirs. If what I write is interesting and you want to read it, great, if not, don’t worry about it, I honestly don’t mind. I admit I still put in extra effort for the regular people that I’m familiar with and who also often leave comments (like Dharrsheena below!), but I don’t expect anything from anyone. Also - I don’t mean to be a drag, but there are some people on Vocal who clearly comment just for the sake of commenting (I guess to try and ramp up stats?). It’s pretty obvious who they are because they leave the same comments on 10+ stories, and I doubt they’ve actually read the content… Anyway, always nice to hear your opinions on this stuff, Mikey 😊
I think we would not have the comment feature on Vocal without you. Vocal has come along way with our input suggestions for sure. I do look forward to what you got to say on my stories. You are a busy person but you really show your support with your comment whenever you can, Thanks Mike for all you do
Yes, sometimes I don't have the time to leave a long comment so I try my best to leave like twi sentences or one long sentence hehehe.
Nice article
