Great Serial Stories You MUST Read!!
This past week, I made the decision to put my new novel on Substack. I had always planned to serialize it and had made a blog for that specific purpose. After testing the waters with Substack, I was amazed at how quickly my audience grew, so I decided to pull the trigger and put Nerve Damage on there, too. I also found out that there were a lot of other authors putting their serial novels on Substack, so here are 5 that caught my eye.

2025: The Final Countdown
Go ahead. Hum that song if you want to. Greetings, Vocal readers. 2026 will be here before you know it. For now, we're eager to finish 2025 on a high note. It has been a long year, especially for me as a writer on Vocal. Us writers have been busy writing and publishing our stories to reach our audiences. As I approach 400 stories on Vocal, I look back and am proud of how far I've come since joining this platform in 2018. The bigger question is this: Will I be able to reach the special milestone of 500 stories written and published around this time next year? It's a huge longshot, but it's not impossible either. In the almost eight years that I've been a writer on Vocal, I have yet to win a challenge. However, these writing challenges motivate me to use them as an incentive to strive even harder. That's one of the goals that I'm trying to pursue in 2026. I've received a few honors in the past, which is always very appreciative.

A World That Was Never Meant for Me
In a perfect world, my story would have never needed to exist. My mother would have grown up in a home where tenderness wasn’t rare. She wouldn’t have learned to turn herself invisible just to stay safe. She wouldn’t have confused silence with peace or obedience with love. She wouldn’t have fallen for the first man who made her feel noticed, even if the attention came wrapped in warning signs she had never been taught to read.

Someone Is Walking Around In My House
The water hit my shoulders like a warm blanket, washing away the stress of a long, lonely evening. I was home alone—something I had never minded before. The house was quiet, calm, and perfectly still. The kind of stillness that lets your mind relax… until it doesn’t.

Someone Is Walking Around In My House. Top Story - November 2025.
Anne Bernays and Pamela Painter — What if? Writing Exercises for Fiction Writers prompts — The Exercise — You're taking a shower in your house or apartment. You are not expecting anyone, and the front door is locked (the bathroom door is not). You hear a strange noise in a rooom beyond the bathroom. Now, take it from there for no more than two pages. This can be in either the third or the first person. Don't spend any time getting into the shower; you're there when the action begins. The Objective - To tell a convincing story centered on speculation and terror.

Things Are Back On Track On Vocal
Introduction This week, we have had issues with Vocal rejecting lots of stories because they were deemed to be in a foreign language. I have also been under a strange Facebook anti-spam ban, which meant I was unable to share my Vocal stories in any group that I was a member of.

Vocal Think You Should Give These A Visit
Introduction We can't read every story published, and we can't read every Top Story or Challenge placement on Vocal, but there are nearly eight hundred thousand of us on here and a lot of readers who are not even Vocal members.

My 2025 Vocal Community Stories
Following Rachel Deeming's suggestion at the beginning of the year, I challenged myself to write at least one story for each of the Vocal Communities throughout 2025. There are 48 Communities now, and I have written for 30 of them in over four years on Vocal, before 2025. In this earlier story, I made an inventory of my best stories (often earning a Top Story badge) in these communities, but I cannot edit it anymore so I'm creating this one.
