My Numbers Are Up

Observations On My Vocal Stats

By Mike Singleton πŸ’œ Mikeydred Published about a year ago β€’ 2 min read

Introduction

I was wondering whether to post about my latest milestone as I feel a most

whiney braggart 😸😸😸 doing it, but I thought I would do it anyway, so apologies if I offend anyone with this.

My Numbers

As I have said before I am nothing special, but I do post a lot of stories on Vocal, and today finished compiling my latest poetry anthology, so I put in quite a lot of hard work. If you divide 60,067 by 2,570 you see that I only average 23 reads per story, which is not very much, but I do have a lot of unread stories and seventy with over a hundred reads, and my top ten have over three hundred reads each, with the top one hitting 1,484.

My top ten most-read stories are not my best, and number three is a clickbait embarrassment, but I leave it there as a reminder of how readers can be fooled. I tried a similar one and it got three reads, c'est la vie.

The thing is hitting this many reads is just something anyone can do.

Hitting the first thousand is a lot more important because you have kept on writing and people have taken notice.

Then you hit five thousand and you know you have scaled another even bigger mountain.

Ten thousand makes you feel you have conquered the world, and twenty thousand is your Everest.

After that people are not too impressed, because you are obviously successful and those numbers are just what you do.

I will be pleased for myself if I hit a hundred thousand reads, and that may be caused by a piece going viral.

I see a lot of writers pushing story after story, usually microfiction and poetry and that makes me hate Vocal's notifications. These Vocal Creators outpublish me and all power to them, but I wish I could throttle those notifications, that is what my subscription feed is for.

Conclusion

My numbers have been built up over four years and could stop at any point, but I bet in three years time there will be a lot more Vocal Creators with over sixty thousand reads.

Thank you so much for reading, now back for some real writing.

Congratulations. I am nearing 2,000 reads after 3 1/2 years, so I think those statistics are amazing. You work really hard at what you do, I think a little bragging is in order.

"I bet in three years time there will be a lot more Vocal Creators with over sixty thousand reads." I mean, some number, sure, but I don't know if it will be all that many, haha. Most people don't stick with it long enough and keep engaging with others like you do. So, yes, anyone *can* do what you've done like you said, but I imagine most won't. Don't sell this milestone short 😁

Congratulations on 60,000 and some reads. I looked on mine and have a little over 3000. I know I write a lot of drabbles, poems and critiques, but I am better at short writing items than long, but I have quite a bit of 600-word articles on my page though too.

Congratulations. I don't get any notifications. Sounds like I don't want them but still... odd!

  • Lana V Lynxabout a year ago

Yes, too many notifications especially from the β€œburst” writers can be annoying. I just learned to scroll through and read selectively. Impressive achievements, Mike, and I always love the music you share.

It’s nice to see your success. I like so many others work, but they never like mine. just a few regulars like your self always help me to grow. I think it’s nice to grow and let others grow too

Yes, I see that also and agree with comments - it’s not bragging - it’s informative and helpful. Congratulations on your continued writing!

Glad to see the numbers going up, Mike! Will catch up on your other pieces later too.

I don't think it's bragging at all! In my eyes, it's a good motivator as to what can happen if I keep writing, especially in those times where I struggle to even try. Also, your writing is always amazing!

I always appreciate you sharing where you are at. I don't see it as bragging at all. I hear your truth with whatever you write. Thank you for that.πŸ˜ŠπŸ’•πŸ’—
