Stornello poem

Inspiring Iris

Behold the Iris, standing tall and proud

Her head and shoulders swaying above the crowd

Surrounded by a sea of blooms, heads all bowed.

*

Beware of fuzzy, golden bumblebees

Sailors by Sirens drawn irresistibly

Agile acrobats tumbling on their trapeze.

*

Bestow gratitude upon faithful friends

A purple bouquet of Irises transcends…

Faultline fraught phrases; attempts to make amends.

*

Bestir Faith, Hope and Wisdom’s affinity

Symbolised by Iris petals’ trinity

Reaping gifts of Peace, Joy and Tranquility.

*

Stornello poetry dates back to 15th Century Italy. Stanzas are triplets, most commonly 10-11-11 syllable lines (or 11 syllables for all lines) with a rhyme scheme AAA BBB or second line near rhyme. (Poetry Magnum Opus)

*

This is my first attempt at Stornello poetry. Inspired by Calvin London’s Stornello poetry, below.

I had never heard of of this form, so am glad I saw it. Great job with lots of visuals besides being true to the form. We have tons of bumblebees in summer of all colors, sizes and shapes so I especially loved the lines about them!
