Pippa opened her eyes as the rising sun spilled into the room. It was the morning after the night before. With a numb brain, for just a second, it felt like overnight the history of everything had been deleted. Sleep after a traumatic emotional event does that; it resets the whole shebang. Except it only lasts a second then the pieces start to fall back into place again.

Ramblings In Hypoxia
Have you ever been able to see something happen before it does? Standing here on the trail, looking at my route ahead, I can see the whole world open up ahead of me. Snow does that; it shows you everything by hiding it, like a blanket that descends from the heavens, erasing the visual noise around you. Everything becomes straightforward. Minute deviations in the sweeping, cold lines, peaks and troughs highlight the path before you, and the truth becomes absolute. Physically, snowfall is hard to traverse, but mentally it is much less tiresome. You need to concentrate on the path, for it is far too easy to walk off of it.

It had been a long day, and Danny White was closing the shop. He was the sole proprietor of 'A Bite At The Cherry'. A hipster's hangout, the health shop consisted of a smoothie bar, a nut station, vegan food, and a massive fruit and vegetables section. His grandmother would have been ashamed at the old shop's metamorphosis, but the rapid fall of the greengrocer had been inevitable. For Danny, inheriting the old family 'fruit and veg' retail business was not the legacy it once was; changes had to be made.

Lost, dark and cold - Cooper stumbled out of the trees and down to the road. Knowing that all roads must lead somewhere he had hope. Standing finally on solid ground, he stretched out his aching joints and wiped the debris from his clothes. Looking left and right he wondered which direction was home. Headlights in the distance caught his attention. He breathed a sigh of relief and started to wave his arms. An old, red, battered Ford pickup pulled alongside him. The passenger window descended. Finally, a break; Cooper felt like he was saved.

The Boagie On Your Back
It all started when I lay down on the sofa. Wearing a tracksuit top, I instantly heard a snap, my bankcard in the side pocket of the jacket had cracked in two; a perfect split, horizontally down the middle. With a bit of clear sticky tape, I managed to salvage it so at least I could still make contactless payments. Later that day I went to phone the bank to issue me a new card but the battery was dead and my charger would not work. I went to log onto the internet and on the Wi-Fi log on page, there was a certificate problem, so my laptops security would not allow me access. With no phone and no way to connect my laptop, I was effectively cut off from the outside world. That was when a voice from childhood blossomed in my head. I heard my Grandma’s voice, “maybe I had a Boagie on my back”.
