dog
It's no coincidence that a dog is a man's best friend; they're more faithful than most other animals, and more faithful than many people.
The Drunken Silver Poodle
The Drunken Poodle When I was a kid, I always wanted to have a dog. My family was not understanding. In those long ago days, dogs were dispensable. We had several dogs over the years but none lasted very long. The family didn’t figure out that you had to train a dog not to do their business in the house, and other social skills to make them compatible members of the family. A cocker spaniel disappeared suddenly, then two dachshunds, George and Gracie, were gone one morning when I went looking for them. Now, I shudder to think how my mother disposed of them, probably at one of those old fashioned kill shelters.

Some Thoughts on Finding a Place in the World
If you've read my other posts, it will come as no shock to you that I breed dogs and compete with them in conformation shows and various sports trials. I breed very rarely and when I do, a lot of thought goes into the litter that will be produced. I have been "in" Toy Fox Terriers for a while now, but have just recently added Teddy Roosevelt Terriers to my home. It was a decision made over a few years, until I finally found the right dogs for my home and my living situation. Pip, the sire, is a high-quality male from a breeder who produces many UKC champions. Diva, the dam, is a high-quality female from a breeder who has been in the breed for decades and has shown several dogs to the AKC Certificate of Merit title available to breeds newly-accepted to the registry. They and all their puppies are dual registered, so that owners can participate in either or both registries.

How my Dog Helped me to Love Life Again
How my dog taught me to love myself again As I pull my t-shirt over my head, the sinking feeling drops to the pit of stomach and makes itself comfortable. I look in the mirror and tilt my head left, then right as if changing the direction would recalibrate the way my body looked in my jeans. The thought of walking down the street to grab a coffee was daunting. How many people were going to stare at me? How many people would be thinking about how much I weighed or how I looked? Judging me. I would instantly rip the clothing off, sling back on my pajamas, and hurl my body back to bed, wallowing in my own self-pity and fears. My anxiety would always get the best of me, and it would always be near impossible not to give in to those little voices telling me I shouldn’t leave to go for something as simple as a walk.

A Veterinarian's Three Favorite Puppy Personalities . Top Story - August 2021.
Puppies are amazing. They are designed to melt your heart at first sight. From their tiny button noses to the way their eyes light up when they play. Everything about them is made to make you want to take them home immediately. There's a reason that so many people adopt puppies every year, and why puppies never last in a shelter long before somebody snatches them up.

The Butterfly on a String
It's been hot and rainy, although not quite as hot as the average Mississippi summer (probably due to the rain). Widget has spent most of his time inside with me, getting to know me and the other dogs. He's also become comfortable with the diet here, which is largely free of kibble. As much as I like to start training when puppies are small, he's undergone a lot of changes in a very short period. He's gotten bits of handling training and not much else, which is absolutely fine when the weather is so formidable. If I had an enclosed training area with air conditioning, it would be different. Right now, I take things as opportunities present themselves.
