2026 Writing Goals
My 2025 Writing Goals went really well, so I'm continuing on to make this a tradition. For my 2025 goals, I wrote down 16 goals. I did not expect to accomplish them all, and I was perfectly OK with that. I didn't even expect to get halfway through. I felt like 5 or more would be good. The idea wasn't necessarily to accomplish them all... if I did, fantastic. The idea was to list out all the goals that I'd like to see myself accomplish, some combination of them. And work towards getting as many as I could.

End of December: 13 Goals Accomplished
It's December 30th... the year is almost over. And I accomplished one more of my writing goals, just in time. Finishing the rough draft of my novel that I was working on (Code Name: Greenies) was a different goal, and I completed that earlier in the year. I knew I'd take a break from it and then come back, so seeing if I could complete the second draft of it was a separate goal. End of December, and I got it.

Published in Portrait of New England. Top Story - December 2025.
My quest to find many publications with prestige to submit to has worked out even better than I thought. I was searching for more publications with more prestige in order to bolster my resume. I truly thought I'd try this for a year and not get published anywhere... maybe if I was lucky... in one of them. And I was OK with that... I was just going to try again the following year, and the year after that, and so on.

New Physical Copy and New Published Story
My endeavor of looking for more literary publications to get published in that held more prestige in order to bolster my resume has been quite successful! One of the publications that I found and got published in back in August was Adelaide Literary Magazine, and I was so happy about that one. It was available online, and they do print versions as well. And recently, I finally got my physical copies of the publication!

A Map to Success. Top Story - December 2025.
When it comes to getting published as a writer and for it to really make a difference for your career, it’s tough. But I had sat back in reflection for a while and did some high-to-medium-quality thinking. I had a theory, a whole big plan… a manifesto? I had to look up the definition to be certain. Sort of? I detailed a lot of it here if you’re interested in the long explanation.

Published on Halloween!. Top Story - November 2025.
Submitting to publications is grueling enough as it is, it's chalk-filled with disappointment all on its own, you don't need to be adding your own self-inflicted wounds to the party. A writer can run out of body parts to absorb these blows.

Enter Through the Book Shop
I’d been published, or had upcoming stories to be published, 11 different times. I was already so happy about this. Add on to that, my two most recent accomplishments, getting published in Cosmic Crime Stories and Adelaide Literary Magazine, were the biggest publications that I’d gotten published in thus far.

STILL Early September: 12 Goals Accomplished
I listed many different kinds of goals for myself in 2025. Some goals I knew I’d get done and others I felt fairly confident that I’d get them done. Both of those kinds of goals were 100% reliant on me doing them, though. Then, I had the Maybe Goals, they were not entirely in my hands, so I couldn’t say for certain that I’d get them done.

Early August: 10 Goals Accomplished . Top Story - August 2025.
Another one of my 2025 writing goals accomplished, and this one is amazing for a couple reasons. The first being that I got a story published in a publication, something I am always striving for. This is my 10th story to get into a publication, the 6th different publication I’ve gotten into. 10 stories feels like an amazing milestone. Sure, largely 10 is an arbitrary number. But it’s double digits. That feels incredible.

Mid July: Nine Goals Accomplished
Earlier this year I finished my 1st draft of a script, “The Mermaid Outside the Window.” I knew I needed to come back to it to make some edits, but that I had to take time off from it to gain perspective. How better to do that then go work on the 1st draft of some other script idea? I came back to this, reread, took notes, made edits, and completed the next draft! Nine goals down!
