Knight in Shining Armor
Being a greyhound mom for over a decade, I have a lot of “trigger” moments. On Facebook, people always share stories that trigger memories of my hounds. Some of the memories are hilarious, some are a bit bittersweet. This story is more than a little bittersweet.

The Rescues -- A Series
I am Dying. Humans find that such a harsh thing to say. But it is true. My new family does not know yet. They know I am sick, because they took me to the Vet this morning, but I can feel the weakness setting into my very heart. It will not be long now.

The Rescues -- A Series
Each day after that was wonderful. Mama, the lady’s name, put medicine on each and every wound. It hurt but I trusted her and let her do it. She made sure I took my medicine every day and got lots of little meals, I was only 45lbs. when I should have been 120lbs. So, Mama said it was going to be a slow build. She also gave me a bath that made my skin feel so much better. It stopped burning and itching and in few days the hair started to grow back. When the new growing hair got so prickly feeling, I had to chew at it Mama gently applied new medicine to the patchy places that eased the pain and helped it heal further.

She Saved Us
This concept might be weird, but hello. These are the many stories from all the animals that Angela, our human mommy, saved. She has a big heart, patience like a saint, and always looks out for those of us who were different, sick, or thrown away by uncaring people. She means the world to us; we mean the world to her. It’s a good relationship that is never boring! We begin with the good boy, Cow.

Her second chance.
Our first dog, like many people's firsts, was not a rescue. We got him from a breeder when I was 10 years old, fully vaccinated, health checked and kennel club registered. We took him to puppy classes, long walks, and had loads of socialisation, he was a spoilt brat to be perfectly honest. However, even though we did all this he still ended up needing both his cruciate ligaments fixing after he stupidly bolted after a squirrel and he developed little man syndrome (meaning he tries to fight any dog bigger than him), despite all the training and socialisation he got from a young age.

Sinbad and Caesar found us
When we moved to Darwin in Australia's top end (the Northern Territory), my father wasn't expecting us. Mum rented a sparsely furnished house on stilts then phoned Dad to tell him we'd landed from Sydney. When I say "we", I mean Mum, me (I was seven), my brother (4) and my sister (1).

A Manhattan Princess
Princess Ella Montrose did not start off her life as a princess but she knew that it was her fate to become one. She was born on the island of Cozumel where her first owners were oblivious to her true status, they treated her as less than royal, less than a being of any worth, less than a dog. She was beaten, tied up, & left to fester. Befitting her royal blood, part of her remained impervious to this treatment, she bided her time, fully aware that though born of such humble beginnings her true lineage would soon become evident to all.

How adopting a cat taught me that love is endless and unconditional
I've wanted a cat for as long as I can remember, but my parents weren't easily convinced. It didn't help matters that my paternal grandmother - who was living with us at the time being - could not fathom an animal in the apartment. Humans and animals coexisting indoors?! What is this sorcery? Actually, I think her precise words were: "It's either the cat or me." Kind of a bummer.

When Love Came In The Form Of A Dog
It all started back when I was a sixteen years old. I was currently in band that a group of friends from school and I had formed about half a year prior and lived in Southern California. Honestly we were just a bunch of misfits and outcasts who had bonding together over our common love of music and had eventually decided to do something about it. So like I mentioned earlier, we formed a band. But unfortunately, we didn’t have anywhere to practice at home so with that being said, we had to venture out and find our own space to practice. And boy, did we ever. Far off in the land known as the San Fernando Valley, we scraped together enough money to buy a small building that we called our “band house” and although it wasn’t exactly the nicest of homes, it was ours and that’s all that mattered.

Stubby
I don’t know when he showed up, but there he was. A big grey tom with mats and clumps in his coat. I had seen him hanging around the neighbor’s cats and on her porch. I just assumed he was hers. She owned four cats of her own that seemed to sleep outside and she left food for them, the local possums and who knows what in the neighborhood. There were some very large squirrels in the area probably for that reason. Once, when I was out working in the yard the neighbor came over and talked to me, mostly snarky and sneering. You know, the stuff that makes for good, high fences.
