Siblings. Not siblings.
Five children, five fathers, one mother, that is the configuration of my family. I am the youngest and the child that got to grow up with both parents throughout my childhood. I am 10+ years younger than the next child, and 16 years younger than the oldest, so I never grew up with my siblings because they lived with one of their fathers. Furthermore, I don't remember the first time that I met my sisters because they were in and out of our lives, lived in another state, and my mother was not on good terms with her ex-husband. These were things I did not understand as a child, and yet I found that I was emotionally abused because of things beyond my control.

Friendships Strained
It has been over a year since the pandemic started and things are still not back to normal. Vaccinations have rolled out, however, I have yet to hang out with anyone. Much of this has to do with the fact that I have lost contact with so many of my friends due to a lack of interaction. You truly learn what friendship means when you can't see one another every day. When things started to go down I was working 70+ hours a week while most people were unemployed. My friends got to hang out on zoom and other video hosting platforms because they had a lot of time on their hands. I was unable to hang out with them and enjoy the face-to-face interactions. When I got home most days I just wanted to sleep. Most of my friends were still messaging me on Facebook, but they were living different lives than I was. I couldn't relate to them and vice versa. I didn't know what it was like to be bored out of my mind with nothing to do around my house as they did. I was considered lucky because I was still working. I didn't feel the same. I did appreciate having a full-time job, but I didn't care. I wanted a break, I wanted to live off of the unemployment benefits and stay home. I did not have that luxury. I was overworked in the health field and stressed out. When I talked to other people they were unsympathetic to my woes.

The (un)Truth Learned at Home
When we are children we learn from our parents and experiences growing up in our household. Not all homes are the same though, some only have one parent, some have grandparents, aunts and uncles, stepparents, or adoptive parents. Needless to say, all these can lead to different experiences for each of us. Some homes are heavily religious while others do not. My parents were somewhat religious. My father had gone to church growing up and my mother had been a ward in a Catholic convent when she was young, so their views were vastly different. My mother would claim to not be Catholic anymore, but I found her to be very strict about religious dogma.

Rescue for Two
February 08, 2013 It was nearly Valentine’s day and I was lonely, but I knew that taking on a pet was a responsibility that I just was not yet prepared for. However, the local strays had gotten busy early and produced a litter of kittens that were running wild around my neighborhood. All of them were rather cute and people started rescuing them and their numbers were dwindling. I seriously considered taking one that was a light cream and orange color, but I told myself I did not need a pet because I worked three jobs and I would not be able to care for the little fuzzy creature.
