Breakfast Time (Feline and Avian)
For A Cat And A Bird

Introduction
We have a cat that visits a few times a day for treats. When he started, it was just once a day. He doesn't trust me but expects treats. This is just about how the pictures above came about, and you can see the video on my Facebook/Instagram post here:
The music I have used is "Lucifer Sam" by Pink Floyd, even though he is not Siamese, but his temperament fits. The video is brilliant as well.
So Why Am I Writing About This Now, And What Does The Bird Have To Do With It?
Since he started coming round for treats. I've tried to get a little closer and give him a stroke, and he always moves away. I don't think he trusts ME, but he comes back two or three days for his treats often right up to the window, then the back door. I am not sure if he would come into the house and what he would do if he did come in.
I would leave his dish out, but one morning I found slugs in it stealing the cat food, so then, when he left, I started to bring the dish in overnight. I still left it out during the day so he could come around whenever he wanted for a treat.
Then a few times, during the day, the dish was empty so I thought he must be enjoying the stuff we put out, though still would not let me stroke him.
Then one day I saw a thieving magpie helping himself to cat treats. I once made a short video of a cat and a magpie having an altercation on our fence, backed by a minute of the Overture from Rossini's "La Gazza Ladra"
I then realised that the emptying of the bowl was being done by the birds rather than the cat. This is slightly annoying as the are birdfeeders in the garden that the cat can't access.

The bird you can see in the main picture is a thrush or a blackbird, I am not sure.
Ever since I saw the magpie helping himself, I wanted to get a photograph so that I could write this piece and have proof that the birds were stealing that cat's food. I suppose I could share "Cat Food" by King Crimson, although it's a bit too jazz and "Lucifer Sam" is far better in my opinion.
This was a single and they performed it on "Top Of The Pops" but I digress.
One of the problems with getting bird photographs and videos it that generally they are so fast that you don't have time to get your phone out and then they fly away.
Today, the blackbird/thrush stayed long enough for me to video and get the evidence I needed.
So now, when the cat is finished and wanders off, I bring his dish in, so he can continue when he returns. The birds have the options of the feeders, with seed and fat balls, so they do not need cat food.
Sometimes the food gets wet if it rains, then I throw that out onto the path near the bird feeders, but the cat food is generally exclusively for the cat.
There may be other developements in this going forward, but for now I just wanted to share this with you and hope that it puts a smile on your face.
Conclusion
Thank you so much for giving me your time. I hope you have enjoyed it, and I wonder if you have had similar experiences.
No doubt he will be back later demanding more treats.

Loved this <3
You sure did put a smile on my face. The cat looks similar to one that visits my back porch every now and then. My upstairs neighbors moved out last summer and left him behind. I was able to help the other cat they left, a pregnant one. I don't understand people... Anyway, at least, you don't have raccoons stealing food. Last summer, when I was caring for the pregnant cat and later her kittens until I could find them a home, a giant raccoon used to come and steal the food. I put the food away after an incident involving me sitting on my back deck one night, and Mr raccoon decided to come and visit. He tried to get on my lap. I was so scared. I spoke to the damn thing like he was a baby, and luckily it backed away. LOL... Animals are funny beings, and I found this quite enjoyable.
Thanks everybody for your comments , so glad for what you have to say
Cats seem to be the ultimate ego machines. Everything is on their terms. They are nice to pet. Your comments about ringing to photograph birds reminded me of how many shots I have taken trying to photograph fish underwater when I have been diving. Damn fish move so fast all you get (if you are lucky) is a colorful blur. It is photography by numbers. Take enough, and one has to be presentable. Nice light-hearted story!
I hope one day he lets you pet him. And that bird is so bad. Stealing his treat
Count on having a few of his mates joining him before long, lol. Love it, Mike. I'm the same way. (Much to my wife's chagrin.)
Great story, I share your love of animals. I feed stray cats, raccoons and the birds.
I almost forgot … I agree with you, the Pink Floyd song is so much better, and the video is great, indeed. 😁
I loved this so much! 💕 I love stories about animals, and love it when people feed free pets like these that come for a meal. 🥰 It takes quite a long time to gain the trust of a cat. Eventually, you can it. I am guessing the cat has had some bad experience with humans. Be patient. I think it’s a black bird, but not sure either. Birds like cat food for some reason. All birds do. During the pandemic, when I was in Eastbourne, I had a seagull coming to my window for food. The founder of Bird Aid told me seagulls like cat food as a treat so I started to also get cat food as well as some fish for my visiting pet seagull. That keep me sane during that crazy time. Thank you for feeding the cat and the birds. Every living creature needs some food and some have a hard time getting any. 💕
What a great story to share and good job. Reminded me of a darn squirrel that kept begging for corn at our backdoor.
Very nice
Good on all accounts. Love the pictures and the story reminded me of a long time ago when I used to put squirrel feeders up and when the corn was gone a particular squirrel would I swear come up to the back door and knock saying "What's up where's the food?!" Named him chester.
