In 2025, I think most millennials are familiar with the art of scamming. We grew up with dial‑up, chain emails, “your car’s extended warranty” voicemails, and that one cousin who swears their crypto coin is totally legit. Scammers have a variety of mediums these days. There's the outright scams, you fork over money for something that doesn't exist. Sometimes they try to steal your financial information hoping to commit fraud (joke's on them if they try to steal non existent money from my bank accounts). There are those scams where they try to get you to unknowingly commit check fraud for their benefit. Then there's the scams where you do actually receive something, but it's not anywhere near the quality promised. Sometimes these scam items are vitamins that offer little to no benefit beyond typical OTC medications for twelve times the price, sometimes it's a cheap Chinese knock off item that breaks after one use. One particular scam that tickled my funny bone was when a woman bought what she assumed was regular furniture at an unbelievable price point only for it to be incredibly expensive doll furniture.

To Mother
Alone in the dark, a young boy begins to cry. “Mother! MOTHER!” he calls out in desperation. Why does he scream so urgently? Why, in the midst of all that frightens us, do we often call for our mothers? One could deduce that perhaps it is due to the womb being our first place of memory for some, and for others a distant dream in the subconscious. Either way, this warm, dark, peace is our first experience of existence prior to birth across the board. We hear our mother’s heartbeat from within, alone in the dark. We are fed from her placenta through our umbilical cords. She literally gives us life. It makes sense to call for our creator when we feel threatened. However, the meaning of the word, “mother,” is far more complex than simply a female that has a child. Sometimes a birth mother passes, or they find themselves unable to care for a child who must be given to a close relative or perhaps adopted out. There are even some without a formal family. Nevertheless, most people will claim to have at least one motherly figure in their lives. How is this so if a mother is limited to the woman who gave birth to you? It isn’t. “Mother,” is not just a noun; it is also a verb. A mother is more than a woman who has given birth to or adopted a child, she is also a lifelong support system, protector, and guide to the world for anyone whom she chooses to mother.

Animal Entitlement to Life
Biologically speaking, life is an endless chemical balancing act. When a population of a plant or animal species fluctuates, at least one other species is directly disturbed, while many others become indirectly influenced. With this general truth in mind, one could logically conclude that all living beings share equal value in the planetary scheme. Each living being on Earth has its own niche in the biosphere, down to the smallest microorganisms. Our food chain quite literally is a circular cycle of life. Plants are eaten by animals which are eaten by larger animals. Feces from the animals helps fertilize the soil to grow more plants to sustain plant-eating life. It is a continuous system of locked interdependence. Yet, when it comes to the rights of animals in domesticated, commercial, scientific, or even natural wildlife settings, some humans attempt to argue the idea that they are not deserving of basic rights. In a society of intelligent beings that are evolving on various levels, it is time that humanity come to a consensus that all conscious living beings are entitled to pursue a life free from unwarranted cruelty and neglect.
