Our Eight Legged Friends At Home - An Arachnoid Critique

Lots of people don't like spiders, but humans tend to be scared of anything smaller than them, that has more legs than them, that also move faster than them.

Admittedly, the bigger they are, the more scary they are and some can bite and kill you.
But they produce works of art like this

I hear a lot of great comedy memes like "What if the coins you find down the back of your settee were just from spiders paying their rent".
Many spiders eat flies, including house spiders, wolf spiders, and crab spiders. They are predatory and use their fangs to inject poison into their prey.
A spider's diet consists mainly of mosquitoes, flies, moths, and sometimes even other spiders.
So, despite the fear that these eight-legged predators can induce in humans, they're beneficial creatures to have around since they can help prevent other pesky insects from invading your home.
Though I wouldn't want one in my bed or crawling on me, I always try and catch them and put them outside.
One spider eats 2,000 other insects a year, insects that would be otherwise eating our food crops. “If spiders disappeared, we would face famine,” says Norman Platnick, who studies arachnids at New York's American Museum of Natural History. “Spiders are primary controllers of insects.
Spiders are almost as essential to human survival as bees are.
So unless it is a big and vicious one, let that spider have the run of your house. It will do you a lot of good by keeping the insect population down.
All my lights are LED so emit no heat, which means any spider webs stay, they don't melt. I have to brush them away, but I know those webs do trap small pests in the house.
I know a lot of you will have differing opinions from me, but life would be boring if we were all the same.
I know this should really be in petlife but it is my thoughts on Spiders and a critique and Vocal still need six hundred words for Petlife pieces, so I will try and give it a try.
A Bit More About Spiders
I watched the excellent film The Gorge and I will admit the spiders that were in skulls were a little disconcerting. This is my film review here:
Then you have films like "Arachnophobia" and, for me, that would be far too much to deal with in real life.
And there are a lot more films where our eight-legged friends become eight-legged terrors.
Then we also have a veritable infestation of spider related memes:

Do they have spider farms? What would they get from the spiders? And the astrological signs are quite amusing though mine isn't really me.
A Long Conclusion
I have friends who keep spiders (and snakes) as pets and that is something I could not do. I am fine with the existence of spiders because they serve, in my opinion, a necessary service, but I prefer that they do it out of sight, but I am fine with outdoor spider webs. I suppose they are a bit like dustbin men, they deal with the stuff we want removing from our daily lives, in the case of spiders it is bugs.
The music I included was a bit of voodoo gumbo by Doctor John, "Black Widow Spider".
Thank you so much for reading, and I did finally manage to keep on and write six hundred words on the subject of arachnids. That has even impressed me and now has me thinking what will be my next subject?
I will no doubt find something.

Hi, Mike. Great story, but I'm sorry, I hate spiders as I expressed in my story "The Only Good Spider is a Dead Spider." I have mellowed a little because I actually let a few daddy longs go a couple of days ago and rescued a baby huntsman (Sacre bleu). Red back spiders have the right to live, if I don't see them. If I see them ,sorry it is different story.
On this matter We must surely agree For any who feast on skeeters Are certainly friends to me. As a Libra, that one's a bit spot on. My wife once found herself greatly endeared of a pink-toed tarantula at a pet shop in Lincoln, Nebraska. She called it Elle (after Elle Woods of "Legally Blonde" fame), though our son refused to allow her to bring it home with us.
I'm not afraid of spiders. I always stop to say hi when I see one. But a cockroach, that's a whole different story, lol
I won’t kill spiders or burn the house down to get rid of them but….. Great article Mike and I’d take spiders over snakes any day of the week!
I hate to see spiders scurrying across the floor, but love what they do for us. Such ugly little beauties
Just stopping by to say, “I’m not reading this!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Spiders are not my fav, especially the wolf spiders that roam around my house!
This was an interesting read, Mike! I've grown to tolerate spiders in the house, although they're still not my favorite. Of course, the nasty venomous ones are the scariest!
I like the spiders that don't mind the light, I don't like the ones that like dark places like widows and recluses. I LOVE wolf spiders because they EAT the widows and recluses. We used to play with the Texas tarantulas growing up, letting them crawl up and down our arms.
Good job and there is good in all things and insects.
