The Strength I Found in Prayer
How turning to God in difficult times gave me peace, perspective, and the courage to keep going.

Life has a way of throwing challenges at us when we least expect them. Sometimes it feels like no matter how much we plan, prepare, or fight, obstacles keep finding their way into our path. For me, one of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that human strength alone isn’t always enough. When everything else failed, I discovered the power of something deeper: prayer.
I didn’t always understand how much prayer could impact my life. Growing up, I saw people around me bow their heads before meals, whisper words of gratitude, or call out to God during church services. It seemed like a tradition more than a necessity. But as I faced my own struggles—moments of doubt, fear, and heartbreak—I realized that prayer wasn’t just a ritual. It was an anchor.
When Life Feels Overwhelming
There were times when I felt completely overwhelmed, when the weight of problems seemed heavier than anything I could carry. Have you ever had those days where you sit quietly, staring at the ceiling, wondering if you’ll ever catch a break? That’s where I found myself more than once.
In those moments, I turned to prayer—not with fancy words or perfect phrases, but simply with honesty. Sometimes all I could manage was: “God, help me.” And somehow, even in that raw simplicity, I felt a shift. The problems didn’t magically disappear, but I no longer felt like I was facing them alone.
Prayer as a Source of Strength
One of the most powerful things about prayer is how it changes our perspective. When I prayed, I wasn’t just asking for solutions; I was finding strength. I began to notice that prayer gave me courage to face challenges, patience when I wanted to give up, and peace when everything around me felt chaotic.
For example, there was a time when I was facing a decision that felt impossible. No matter what choice I made, it seemed like I would lose something important. I wrestled with the options for days, my mind spinning in circles. But when I finally stopped and prayed, something unexpected happened. My heart grew calmer, my mind clearer. Prayer didn’t hand me the answer on a silver platter, but it gave me the clarity to move forward without fear.
Love and Forgiveness Through Prayer
Prayer also taught me about love and forgiveness. Just like Hannah Young in The Haves and the Have Nots, I’ve learned that sometimes the people we love won’t follow the same path we would choose for them. They’ll make mistakes, wander far from the values we hold dear, or even hurt us. But through prayer, I’ve found the strength to keep loving, keep forgiving, and keep believing in their potential to change.
There’s something healing about lifting others up in prayer, even when they’ve disappointed you. It shifts the focus from anger or bitterness to hope and compassion. It reminds you that no one is beyond grace.
Why Prayer Motivates Me
The reason I consider prayer one of the greatest motivators in my life is simple: it reminds me of my connection to something greater than myself. On my own, I have limits. I get tired, frustrated, and sometimes hopeless. But prayer reminds me that I’m never truly alone, and that God’s strength fills in the gaps where mine runs out.
Prayer has carried me through failures, heartbreaks, and uncertainties. It has given me joy in victories and peace in losses. And most importantly, it has shaped my outlook on life—teaching me that no challenge is wasted when it drives me closer to God.
Final Thoughts
If you’re reading this and feeling overwhelmed by your own struggles, I want to encourage you to try prayer. You don’t need the perfect words. You don’t need to have it all figured out. Just start where you are, with honesty and openness.
Prayer may not erase every problem, but it will give you strength, peace, and hope—the kind of motivation that carries you further than you ever imagined.
And if there’s one thing my own journey has taught me, it’s this: faith can transform fear into courage, and prayer can turn even the darkest nights into mornings filled with light.
