The Day I Almost Gave Up And Why I Didn’t

Sometimes the breakthrough comes right after the breakdown

By Muhammad HakimiPublished 8 months ago 3 min read
Sometimes the darkest day is the one right before the sunrise

We all have that one day—the kind we never talk about. The one where everything feels too heavy, and the idea of starting over feels impossible.

For me, that day came after years of pushing, striving, and dreaming… only to watch things fall apart right in front of me.

Let me take you there.

It was raining—not just outside, but in my mind too. One of those days when nothing feels right.

I sat in my room, holding my head in my hands, surrounded by the wreckage of dreams that didn’t quite make it. Projects that didn’t take off. Rejections that came in silence. Friends who drifted. A bank account that laughed at me.

You know the kind of day I mean.

And in that moment, I asked myself a question I never thought I’d ask:

“What’s the point anymore?”

It was the question that cracked something open in me—not because I had the answer, but because I was finally honest enough to admit that I didn’t.

The Myth of Constant Strength

We live in a world that glorifies hustle and grind.

“Never give up.”

“Winners don’t quit.”

You’ve heard it all. I had too. I even believed it… until I couldn’t anymore.

Because nobody tells you that staying strong every day is exhausting.

Nobody warns you that chasing your dreams might leave you broke, broken, and full of doubt.

But here’s the thing I learned on that day—the day I almost gave up:

It’s okay to break.

Strength isn’t about never falling. It’s about getting up one more time than you fall.

And on that dark, rainy day, I didn’t feel strong. I didn’t feel motivated. I didn’t feel anything.

But I decided to do one small thing.

The Power of One Step

I stood up. I walked to the mirror. And I told the reflection:

“This isn’t how your story ends.”

That’s it. Nothing fancy. No dramatic music. No inspirational speech.

Just one sentence. One act of rebellion against the darkness in my head.

And from that moment, I decided to stop focusing on how far I had to go.

I focused on taking the next small step.

Some days, it was sending one email.

Other days, it was just getting out of bed.

One day, it was simply choosing not to give up.

Each step didn’t feel like much… but they built momentum.

And slowly, the fog began to lift.

Growth Isn’t Loud

One thing I’ve learned since that day is that growth doesn’t always announce itself.

It’s not always a loud, thunderous moment.

Sometimes, growth is quiet.

It happens in the silence of your own struggle.

It’s in the moments where you want to give up but don’t.

In the days when no one’s cheering but you keep going.

In the nights when sleep feels like an escape but you choose to face your reality.

Those are the moments that shape you.

You Don’t Have to Be Ready—Just Willing

I used to think I had to wait until I felt confident or inspired to act.

But I’ve realized something more important:

You don’t have to be ready. You just have to be willing.

Willing to try again.

Willing to fail again.

Willing to hope again, even when hope feels risky.

You won’t always feel brave.

But you can still be brave.

For You, Reading This

If you’re reading this and you feel like giving up, I want to say something to you that I wish someone had said to me:

You’re allowed to rest. You’re allowed to cry. You’re allowed to question everything. But don’t you dare give up.

Because maybe—just maybe—the breakthrough is waiting on the other side of this breakdown.

Maybe your story doesn’t end here.

Maybe this is just the part where the hero nearly gives in before rising again.

You are the hero.

Final Thoughts

The day I almost gave up is the day my real story began.

Not because something magical happened, but because I chose to keep writing it.

You don’t have to be perfect.

You just have to keep going.

One breath.

One step.

One day at a time.
