Rest for the Wicked
I once had a dream that all my teeth fell out. I was eight and I didn’t see the need to brush my teeth before bed when I’m obliged to do it first thing every morning. After all, it’s not like I was going to eat anything during that time spent sleeping.

Rest, Resolutions and Renewal
1. Saying Goodbye to the past. The past two years have been something else, haven’t they? I am sure I am not alone in saying that these were some of the most reflective, tough, sad and heavy years that I have ever experienced. On the flip side however, they have also been some of the biggest years for growth I have ever experienced as well. Dealing with Covid and evaluating what’s important, what really matters and what was simply surface validation has caused a major shift in me. I began to transform from a stressed out corporate drone that felt stifled with a burning desire to honor myself, to someone giving into that desire to be more creative. To live as my full self. To be more authentically me and to relax. What started as a whisper became a roaring yell. I could no longer ignore evaluating the way in which I had come to work and exist. The constant insomnia from stress, the terrible dreams of numbers and statistics and the worst of all, the incessant corporate jargon! Similar to the excitement and anticipation that I feel at the beginning of a new year, I knew it was time for a change!

Mother and Son
By Casey Laday “Can you make it? I know you want to do this on your own, but I don’t mind helping you walk the rest of the way.” His normal grouchy voice seemed to soften as the elderly woman walked up to the picture-perfect house. Perfect in the way that the grass seemed to lay across the ground like a blanket across the dirt letting the only thing to escape it be the neat orange and brown leaves that fell from the sky. They seemed to fall in slow motion as they slide off the old roof that had seen better days but still gave off the impression that it would keep you safe from the fall nights. At any given time you could blink your eyes and take a mental picture of this place put it in a frame and have yourself a beautiful piece of art work.

Write to Relax
Throughout my life, I always wanted to keep a diary. I tried—and failed—many times. I pledged to write "Dear Diary" every day. Before going to sleep each night, I wanted to lounge across my bed and fill the pages with confessions like some school girl does in a teen fiction book or a TV series. I even made it a New Years Resolution several times.

When You Have Nothing Left To Lose, You Have Everything To Gain.
The cold power button winced as the iridescent glare from my computer streamed onto my face. It was 6:55 am on a Tuesday, December morning. While the sun hadn’t quite caught up to the moment, my coffee mug was nestled firmly between my fingers and the top of my work desk. A few sips and my eyes would rise. A few sips of optimism and the day may just go swiftly.

A Healthy Mind Is a Terrible Thing To Waste: A Resolution and Revolution on Rest
Tiredness comes in a lot of forms; there’s the bodily tired one feels after a long day at work or in class, the mental tiredness that comes from doing complex work or tedious tasks, and moreover, tiredness of the soul that stems from emotional strain and difficult circumstances over time. The last couple of years have shown us what the world looks like when it grinds to almost a complete halt, and the usual busyness so many of us face is minimized in favor of health—or at least that was the original intention we were all given at the beginning.
