How to heal fully and properly.
Behind the Black Cover
It was one of those days that started quietly, without hinting at any significance but ended up being one of the most important days. MaryAnn was lying on her bed and listening to the stillness of the room. In her mind she could hear the powerful play of the ocean waves as they collide with the shore and breakdown giving out majestic white foam before they disappear, and the new waves come with the same zeal and power before they meet the same fate. She pondered at the resemblance between life and the waves. Her eyes wide open as she discovered the meaning and purpose she has searched for so long. For a moment she felt peaceful and complete. Then she remembered Steve and their meeting tonight and a veil of slight darkness fell over her face. They have been together for over two years. Everyone including her thought they will end up in a marriage. However, for last few months she has not been happy in their relationship. Steve is a nice man, but he gets incredibly angry sometimes which truly scares her. The thought that she will have to live with this occasional outburst of extreme anger made her heart sink. She thought hard whether she should end her relationship with Steve. Finally, she made the decision. Everything was clear in her mind until this morning. She was hesitating now, and the doubts were emerging on the horizon of her soul. He loves her. Perhaps he will be willing to work on his behavior. She sighed, feeling heaviness building up in her chest. Then the stillness of her soul was coming back and her chest quietly depressed. But can people ever change? The thought interrupted her peace. Steve has a lot of wonderful qualities. He will sure make someone happy who truly loves him and can handle his personality. She was afraid that she is not that person. She felt this is the right time to break up with him. But now when only a few hours are left to do it, she is not completely sure. Her eyes fell on the little black notebook resting on her desk. She wrote all important moments and milestones in her little black notebook which knew her better than anyone else, maybe even better than she knew herself. She stood up and approached the little black notebook. She knew if she wrote it down it would be official. She opened it feeling tired and she could feel the weight of her impending decision. She knew that it is the right one, but something was causing her to hesitate.

Red Chaise Lounge
With hands full of books, Nora pushed open the cadet blue metal door. The room was small and it was certainly a fixer upper but it was all hers. She collapsed dramatically, letting the books slip from her fingers and hit the floor beside her. The ground was cold and dusty but there was nowhere else to sit. The room was empty. She had a million things she should be doing but instead she melted into the floor and laid there a while.

Finding Home
Eating was not an option. But I did have just about 4 ounces of water left so I figured I could ration that for a day or two. Besides my tattered Merrills, (one with a broken lace and 2 eyes missing), a pair of ripped painter pant cut off shorts, and Styx t-shirt form the 80's, I only had three beloved belongings. A hydro-flask covered with stickers from every country or state my son Dane had ever visited, a personalized pen getting dangerously low on ink and my moleskin journal.

Whiskey Love
Sarah lazily opened her eyes and stared blankly at the ceiling. If it wasn't for the rumbling in her belly she probably would have just stayed glued to the bed in the same position for the whole day just as she has done for the past week. The sun peeked through her window gazing at the light blue walls and beautiful rays of sunlight beamed across the room. She noticed its beauty only for a fleeting moment until the negative thoughts began to creep in her mind and take over her day. She found the strength to drag her sluggish body to the refrigerator and opened it. “Empty of course”, she mumbled to herself. Opening the wooden cabinets she looked for the dry leftover crackers she had for dinner last night. Two measly crackers revealed themselves, she chuckled sadly as she flung it in the garbage. “This must be what depression feels like” she questioned herself as she plopped down on the couch. The empty bottle of whiskey on the glass table caught Sarah’s eye. Sarah stared at the empty bottle and felt slightly comforted. Whiskey was the only thing that has kept her company lately. She could almost taste the smoky, spicy whiskey flavor in her mouth. Sarah’s appetite for food suddenly disappeared and a smooth, strong drink was the only thing she had a taste for.

MEMORIAL DAY
Chapter 1 The mile walk from the diner was the typical end to another work day. The neighborhood was quiet and relatively safe compared too much of the world in which I simply didn't allow myself to think. I couldn't grasp the concept of violence and was immune to the feelings of tragedy.

A Doctor's Legacy
2 years. 2 long years of struggle. 2 long years of pain. 2 long years of suffering. But it was finally over. The pandemic had taken the lives of those both close and far and though it was over, the shadows of those who had lost their battle were everpresent in the eyes of the grieving. We had to keep going though; for those we had lost along the way, this was the only way to honour their legacy and prove that mankind would not take a trial like this laying down. We would never stop fighting. In the darkness, specks of light appeared throughout the world, proving that as a collective, we had the power to endure anything.

I’m Going to Be Rich
One of Odyssey’s favorite phrases has always been, “I’m going to be rich”. Not just in money or luxury items but rich in her mindset and rich in her character. She understood from a tender age that learning new ways to elevate in life is the best thing that anyone can do for themselves. Odyssey is a writer at heart. She is also a realist. She has kept a little black notebook with her ever since she was 16 years old; she is 25 now. Every time she wrote in her little black notebook, she would start and end her passage with her favorite phrase, “I’m going to be rich”. The in between always consisted of experiences that played a significant role on her life that would later enable her to think in a higher state of mind. This little black notebook would really be her best friend as she maneuvered her way through life. It helped herself learn how to thrive with an open mind the best way that she knew how whilst going through her seasons. By the age of 22 Odyssey’s personality could’ve been seen as unmatched, the diamond that couldn’t break, the one that always knew when to bring peace when needed. She had everything working in her favor. She had a great start in her writing career as a Novelist and movie producer, she had her own place and she was on the brink of becoming fully financially stable. Until her six full years pursuing what has brought her thus far, took a different direction.

Lifting The Lid
I'm alone when I want to be, alone when I don't. How am I supposed to tell the days apart when nothing new has happened? Nothing to ease the pressure of being this deep; there's not enough oxygen to make it to the surface. I use to be able to see the weak spot that could still let in some light. Like a flower, I would twist and bend to be near it. It wasn't strong enough to keep me warm or guide my way, but at least there was hope. Now, I see nothing. I've run the tip of my finger bald on the seal, which has only made it easier to glide along. I admire its perfection. Thankful for its ability to muffle the placating voices, the condescending chatter, and the suggestions handed over on clouds of ego.

Life Is What You Make It
Growing up, I was taught "life isn't fair". We never had much, and you know how children can sometimes be. When we seen others with the things we longed for, our dad's answer was always "life isn't fair". That motto conditions so many people to believe that they must simply accept the life they were born into. As if they can't break the generational "curses" that deemed their bloodline with such terrible "luck". I call it a curse because how terrible is it to think that just because your ancestors lived a certain way, that you too, are obligated to go down the same path? It's sad how some people limit themselves the way they do.

Miranda's Destiny
Miranda's hands shook under the older man's gaze. With a magnifying glass, he examined her palms, carefully noting the depth, placement, and shape of the lines and mounts. They had been sitting across from each other at the back of his shop. Neither had uttered a single word for five minutes.
