Happiness, defined; things that help you find happiness, keep it, and share it with others.
Remembering Thea Bowman
We think these are unprecedented times in history, and in some ways that is true; but we are not the first to live through turbulence, division, tragedy, and difficulty. Thea Bowman, has gone before us, and she stood courageous and victorious in the 1960s; a period of transformation for a nation torn by racial strife and division. She is an incredible example of personal strength, resilience, drive, and joy in the face of despair.

Changing the world, one lotus flower at a time
There’s a slight misconception that runs through our mind. An idea that we can’t take hold and take charge of this ride we call life. It’s not really a feel good philosophy, but just a recognition of the truth. As individuals we interact with reality, and as a whole we make it come true.

A Whole Year
An entire year of living a completely different way than any of us were used to has gone by, somehow to quickly and not fast enough. Things are beginning to genuinely look up, but that doesn’t take away from the devastation we have all faced.

Its All In the Lips
“Don’t eat salt. Salt is the enemy.” This is one of the many gems of advice that Mrs. Keyshia Ka’oir Davis offers if you want to get and keep your waistline snatched. Seriously, if you haven’t seen a picture of her waist look it up. One of the main things she is known for is her barely there waistline.

I am here too.
There are so many things one could do with their life. My father told me to do something I enjoy, for he ended up in a cubicle for several decades in order to support our family. I respect him beyond measure for going back to university with kids, later in life and choosing to do something which involves extremely difficult math I have ever attempted. I chose art because I was encouraged to do it, (I was told I should be an artist since Elementary school, and I wanted desperately to learn how to draw) it was also the only thing I felt good at.

My Secret Life As A Janitor
33 days is 792 hours, or 47, 520 seconds if you're counting. But who's counting... I am. I'm counting the seconds of unemployment as part of my attempts to amuse myself with way too much time on my hands. If I had lots of money saved, or maybe lived in a tent in the woods, I wouldn't try so hard to keep my days structured and proactive. I'd wake up at noon and walk across the street to take a nap at the park. When I woke, I'd pet a lot of dogs and walk home.

birth chart controversy
Perhaps it’s controversial to say, but your birth chart is not an excuse for your behaviour, it is a roadmap for self betterment. Each sign has positive and negative traits, and the houses in your chart that host those signs represent the areas in your life where those traits show up. You are not simply your sun sign, living beings aren’t so simple. But, if you take the time to look through the different aspects of a full birth chart, you may be surprised at the amount of things that come to light about your personality, emotional responses, or even habits.

New Year. New Me? New You?
Transformation. Re-invention. Re-definition. Mid-Life Crisis. Call it whatever you like. There are times in one’s life when one decides they want something different. There's something about a new calendar year that can prompt these thoughts. I know we are now in March, yet these thoughts linger. This year, the "slow down and breathe" aspect of the pandemic, seems to be making it even more of a thing.

Monique
She walks with her head bowed, the stinging cold air now more tolerable against her nesh skin as she walks up a staircase and underneath a roof belonging to the grandest portico of the grandest mansion she’s ever seen. The neoclassical architecture and grand balusters make her feel as if she’s in the Capitol about to conduct a series of interviews with senators, although she was on the portico of a home off Calhoun street in Audubo – the most expensive neighborhood in New Orleans. Hands protected and warm underneath her gloves, Monique presses her index finger to the doorbell – an oval diamond set into what appears to be a case of ornately carved slate. The resounding sound is an unfamiliar melodious song that reminds her of the mellow tunes played during the intros of soap operas her mother always watched. Many different emotions enter and exit her psyche as she hears the footsteps of the lady to greet her -- she feels as if she’s in a dream. She clutches her little black book in her left hand for comfort. The $10,000 award isn’t even at the forefront of her mind. She cares most that she now has the chance to get the exposure she needs to achieve her dreams.

A Fine Day to Die. Or Maybe Peach Pie
"THE ALIENS ARE COMING TONIGHT, SAVE YR'SELVES!" I wake up to a wild-haired homeless woman wearing a bright pink, soiled tutu screaming at the top of her lungs. She seems pretty convinced aliens are on their way to take over and enslave us. I chuckle to myself that if aliens did visit, they'd turn around and go right back home if That's the first human they saw.
