That's Trash
The self saboteur that lives in us all can quite easily get the better of us. Feeding off of our ego, this beast grows and festers to pollute our minds. Only recently, have I began to question my own thought patterns and it has been a challenge to step back and observe these negative loops without judgment. But I believe in order to overcome any self made obstacles you first need to understand the root cause

A Wrap Artist
When I was a young girl I was obsessed with paper and stationery. I loved my ballerina paper dolls so much that I still have them, but graduated to hand made cards, postage stamps, ephemera, and any beautiful pieces of paper I could collect and treasure. The colors, the artwork, and the textures all enraptured me. In my grown up life, I still can't resist wandering luxuriously through an authentic stationery store finding irresistible cards or paper so soft you'd think it's fabric! And of course I was later bitten by the scrapbooking craze, mostly in paper, but also in digital form--whew, the infinite designs.

Sewing: My Very Mild Superpower
My ability to sew is my most cherished skill and my own very mild superpower. As clothing has become cheap and ubiquitous, sewing has become a rare and almost mythical skill to behold. Most people are aware that sewing is concerned with the stitching together of pieces of textile and most people do generally appreciate their clothing staying together and intact as they move through their daily lives. However, it seems as though most people simply overlook the sheer beauty of crisp seams, an ultrasharp quick-unpick or a clean, straight hem. Sewing is full of these really simple pleasures, and I am so happy to have had access to them.

Your work is great, but we are going with somebody else
I'm sure that most people have had the feeling of not being good enough at what you think is your passion, I’ve had that feeling ever since I started to learn about the world of industrial design just a little over five years ago. Even with a diploma, a junior design job, two internships and a portfolio that any person should be proud of, you can’t help but listen to that little voice in your head that says “what are you doing here, your skills are not where they are supposed to be, you're letting the team down” I sit here writing this two weeks after my internship has finished and one amazing job offer has fallen through with both having one sentence in common, “Your work is great, but we are going with somebody else for the full time position” that is a real kick in the gut.

When an "Ordinary World" Becomes Extraordinary
Growing up, my Grandmother Winifred was the only person I knew who had cable television. I tried to visit her as often as humanly possible because I loved her but more importantly at the time because her home was the only place I could access my childhood obsession… with MTV. Once I was confident that Winifred was tucked safely into bed at night, I would sneak into the family room and binge-watch my favorite channel until the sun rose. Somehow she always seemed to know that I was spending too many hours in front of "the idiot box" (as she called it). Experience taught me that the only time I could be stopped was while she was awake. So for eight solid hours a night, I was free to transfix myself with MTV and pray that I would catch any of the videos masterly crafted by Australian powerhouse director Russell Mulcahy for my favorite band Duran Duran. Deep down inside, I knew that I had found my calling. I wanted to be the one filming from a helicopter as members of Duran Duran ride elephants along the golden sand beaches of Sri Lanka! I longed to craft concepts with my favorite band, wearing post-apocalyptic avant-garde couture while braving Road-Warrior-inspired scenarios in the Australian desert sand dunes of Cronulla! Winifred could not possibly understand that I was not just blindly "checking out" in front of the idiot box but rather studying… for my future as a Music Video Director.

Beautiful Disaster
I forgot how much I missed this. If you’re a creative type, you know what I mean. It starts with an idea, a vision if you will...and if you’re lucky, it ends with a product. That’s the difficulty with our type. It’s not usually the idea part that’s the struggle. In fact, the ideas are abundant and ever flowing! It’s actually bringing it to life that takes motivation.

The Rooster
The Rooster My Desperate Happiness February 2020. My Doodle Doo Rooster pattern was mesmerizing. I was sitting in a creative applique quilt class. My first. He looked so flamboyant on the package. Feathers flew off and away from him as if he were strutting through a strong headwind. This was not just any ordinary rooster. He had a quirky comedic attitude. He was so irresistible that I bought the overpriced pattern kit among many other choices and signed up for the applique class I was now sitting in. I had gone on a wild shopping spree buying lots of colorful fabric to go with some material that I had bought in Kauai in 2018. I adored Hawaiian prints and had sewed and quilted my first and only miniature wall hanging of Hanalei Bay in 2019. The little Hawaiian quilt hung on my bedroom wall greeting me every morning. I visualized my rooster hanging in my office/craft room also welcoming me to a new and bright day.

A Prosperous Life and Living
Prosperity is a way of being, living, and thinking. It's not just money and possessions True wealth and prosperity starts with you. It's a state of being that comes from within. It doesn't fall out of the sky. It is neither mysterious nor magical. It's always there like the heartbeats that keep you alive. It's the living force within your being
