Bring on the Sunshine!

Ed Sheeran Performs “Ain’t No Sunshine” (2015)

Mikeydred has summoned us up with a new prompt. This one is to write him a story or a poem that relates to the month of April. He has even been so kind as to offer a list of goings on set aside in this fourth section of twelve that we are partakers of. I will try to include them in my madness here, too.

But first of all, I want to thank him for his timely reprieve in this endeavor. You see, I am so done with this month of March. Although it did have some unexpected highlights and serendipities, (the sum of all parts, along with the aches, pains of all types, and too much rain) has frankly left my spirit somewhat exhausted. As I have read some of the posts from my Vocal friends, sadly I think I am not alone. We all need more sunshine in our lives. Or so it seems...so here's to hope for the month of April.

Apr. 5 (first Saturday in April): International Pillow Fight Day: It's been a very long time since I have enjoyed a good pillow fight. The only time I have flung a pillow of late is when one of my cats threatens to hack and barf on my bed. Does that count?

Apr. 7 (first Monday in April): Sweet Potato Day: Now, that is very interesting! Maybe I'll cook some pork roast and have some baked sweet potato casserole on the side.

Apr. 7: National No Housework Day: Now that is reason to celebrate! But if I'm going to cook that pork and its fixings, a clean up would be called for. Choices....

Apr. 10: Gopher Tortoise Day (Florida): This one leaves me a bit confused? Gophers & Tortoises? Maybe because I have never been to Florida in my 70 years on the planet. (How can any American miss out on Florida?...I'm still wondering that myself!)

(April 11th: This is my new friend Gail's birthday! We thought we were DNA cousins until DNA proved that assumption to be false. BUT, we discovered one another anyway and have conversed daily since then.)

April 15th: National Day for Americans to File Income Tax: Wouldn't it be great if there were options to check for where you'd like your money to be allocated?

Apr. 17: Blah, Blah, Blah Day: This is everyday life for an introvert...too much noise!

April 20 (Easter Sunday): Easter is the day on which Christians remember the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, agreeing with the angel at the tomb: “He is not here; he has risen!” (Luke 24:6-7). Jesus had promised before his death: “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.” https://www.christianity.com/wiki/holidays/why-do-we-celebrate-easter.html

from article above

Apr. 20 (third Sunday in April): Go Fly a Kite Day: reminds me of my sister in San Francisco when she was a young woman...she did things like this.

Apr. 26: National Richter Scale Day: sounds like more bad news

Apr. 26 (last Saturday in April): National Sense of Smell Day: so many good smells that can change a bad mood quickly. Thank you, God for this gift.

(April 30th: My youngest child's birthday. She hates sharing it with Willie Nelson, though. I think that's funny...especially since she likes country music. Go figure?)

So, it looks to me that April is a time for us to remember to be grateful, have fun, take time to relax and savor our senses. It's also a time to celebrate special people in our life. For me, it is a reminder that this earth is not my final destination.

April? Best month of the year. Even better now I know that it features National Richter Scale Day. Lets all hope that any coming quakes are all below magnitude 4.0. I have only experienced one, in San Jose, in a hotel at night, and thought it was a passing train... until I discovered that there was no railroad nearby. Thanks too for the San Francisco memory. I was some people fly kites from a hilltop overlooking San Francisco 30+ years ago. All flown by people strapped beneath them. I'd be too scared to do that. Thanks for these rays of sunshine, Shirley. The spring Sun is shining this bright April morning here in London. Long may it continue. Thanks for capturing the joy.
