Routines and Mental Health
The word itself can fill you with a sense of gratification, or a sense of frustration, especially in the days of Covid. For those of us with mental health issues, having a routine, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, can be the difference between a good day, and a really bad one. I myself struggle to keep a routine, even when knowing just how important it is to my mental health. When I am on track, I feel great. I feel accomplished. The depression and anxiety take a back seat to the productivity and gratification that comes along with seeing a clean home, and a clean body in the mirror.

The Morning Routine
In no way do I want to come off braggadocious when I delve into the details of my morning routine and how wonderful it makes me feel. The goal here is to INSPIRE. Although I could be more consistent (working my way up to consistency, life happens) my morning routine is my holy grail, and It sets the tone for my day. I can survive a day or two of skipping it but by day three, I am easily wrapped up in my emotions and thoughts - the way people act towards me, negative feelings, and painful memories. I have to remind myself, ah yes... had I not flaked on my routine, this all could have been quite different.

My Diabetes Journey
The Beginning of the Journey Sometime in 2010 I was diagnosed with Diabetes, Type 2. I was 470lbs, in a size 54 pants, 5xlt shirts and headed for an early, early grave. My fellow employees where I worked were worried about me. I was going to the bathroom at least 3 – 4 times an hour, due to my high sugar I was thirsty all the time. My initial sugar reading (fasting) was 521. Very high. I was shocked, saddened, embarrassed all the adjectives to describe shame. I couldn’t even play with my kids (daughter was 9 son was 5 at the time) because I was always tired and tired easily, always was hurting. Yes, I had become a diabetic.

Glow from Within
Because I'm an author and entrepreneur, I can set my own schedule. This gives me a great amount of flexibility but it also means that it's up to me to be sure that I stick to a routine that's productive if I expect to accomplish my goals. I use technology extensively in goal tracking and planning, write with tools that make that writing process easy, meditate, exercise, eat right, and stick to a bedtime routine. I also fill my day with positive affirmations and plenty of time to get in everything that I love to do. I created a personal plan that works great for me so far. Here are some details about my routine:

I set the tone for the day
I remember when I was in high school, due to a series of unfortunate events, I was going through a bout of severe depression, insomnia, PTSD and anxiety. I didn't believe that I could ever get better, let alone experience a joyful or blissful day. Heck, I didn't even believe I'd ever experience "energy" or "vitality" or "motivation". Those feelings were so foreign to me that I thought I would have to just put up with myself for the rest of my life, dragging my feet everywhere I went.

Summertime is often one of the most looked forward to and exciting seasons. Kids especially love it because there isn’t any school, but the adults tend to be just as excited. Crystal Healing
The crystal healing community has grown very popular in the past several years. Many people have subscribed to the healing properties of crystals, gemstones, and minerals. I have done some research and found that there is very little peer reviewed research on crystal healing (gemmotherapy). What little research that has been done attributes any healing qualities to the placebo effect. It is important to mention that this can be enhanced through priming. The general consensus is that crystal healing is a pseudoscience.

Showing Up With Love
Mornings are sacred. Sacred because of the birds that wake up early with me, sacred because of the freshness of a new day. What's become important to me in the morning is creating a tone - the tone of a morning follows you throughout your day, your week and your life. We all know that we have the power to shift our state of being, but few of us take the time to do this regularly. We don't know how, or we're tired, or we're distracted.

Creation Mode
I live in Bali, Indonesia. It's one of the most beautiful places in the world. It's my sacred place where I feel at my best, and I thrive. I'm currently building my business. Due to the coronavirus, I lost my job and now have the opportunity to step into a career of my dreams. In doing so, I have put into effect daily habits to keep me on track.

5 Steps to De-Stressing & Feeling Good. Third Place in Glow from Within Challenge.
When it comes to self-care and self-development, I will often consider them as one. For me, self-care doesn’t have to refer to a skincare routine or painting my nails but can refer to a spectrum of activities that make me feel better about myself and my direction in life. Whilst I am partial to a pamper, when I want to make myself feel better or pay myself particular attention, I often find myself leaning towards self-development/self-help practices.
